Put Some County Propety to Better Use

A suggestion was made to me about the use of local county land for entertainment uses, specifically a water park. The area suggested was the land we use for the Green Lake County Junior Free Fair. Most of the land around the county building is not used for most of the year. We probably could have used this land for the new Court House Building nobody seems to want. (See below, Your Tax $$$ at work) As an alternative it has been suggested we might want to put this land to a more productive use of the land. Personally, I still think the old Court House would be a great Casino. Give the land back to the Native Americans. (Maybe they will sell cheap cigarettes)

Yes the Jail should have gone there and the county shop should have been moved out of town along with the fair to allow for a better fair. Again too late. The suggestion was made 5 years ago and no one listened. The concrete is being poured the plans are done it's not going to stop. The current courthouse could be used for a community center. The current jail could be taken down and the lot made into public parking. Turn Downtown Green Lake into a Town Square that all could enjoy.

Typically, county fairgrounds are not attractive settings. They are usually found outside the city limits where there is more room. Green Lake's annual fair is quite small in comparison to most counties, so the current fairground seems to fit the purpose. It is kind of nice that people can walk downtown to attend the fair (or a car show). However, there is so much unsightly "junk" piled around the county grounds by the highway department. I like to walk my dog back there, and I have to say, it is a very ugly mess. It could be a lovely spot along the marsh, but it would take a lot of work and some changes in highway department policies. I don't care if they move the fairgrounds out of town, but where? It is important to keep farming alive and well in Wisconsin, and I mean family farming, not big corporate farms. My hats off to 4-H for keeping our youth interested in farming.

I'm still not sure about having a casino in Green Lake, Chief. It would be very ironic for a city that has no taverns, controls it's liquor licenses like they are evil pacts with the devil, to invite a casino into it's midst. Are there other small cities in Wisconsin (similar to Green Lake) that have a casino? Isn't it almost like saying, hey let's have a whore house and a crack house in Green Lake? It would be good for our downtown? I have a tainted view of gambling because I believe it is often addictive and destroys families. I am open to hearing other opinions.

A casino in town?? ... Ok, here's a thought, Where the hell would everyone park? Are we going to tear down the jail and build a nice big parking garage? Wouldn't that be just lovely. The high point in town and we got a big friggin concrete parking garage! Maybe we could launch fire works off the top of it every 4th of July?

Then there's the benefit that casinos enjoy of gambling income so they can keep their other prices, food & booze lower than local competition. Guess we could kiss a few more long time Green Lake establishments good bye then. Thanks Gooseblind for all the good times, but we're going to the Casino now! Cheaper booze!!!

Oh yea, a casino, a great idea. Just has sleepy little Green Lake written all over it. Nice big flashing neon signs right downtown. What a Joke!

I think everyone has cheaper booze than the Gooseblind.

This is all coming together now, like pieces of a puzzle this is all starting to make sense. The newest "school within a school" here in Green Lake will be the Casino Training Academy, where the blackjack dealers and slot-machine repairmen are trained, along with the School of Mixology. Then we invite the Native Americans here to their ancestral grounds to start Wisconsin's first "Green Casino". In addition to the remodeling of the old courthouse, we have a floating barge on the lake where the strippers preform. (Oh yes, add pole dance training to the charter school line-up) Since it is a Green Barge, it will have rows of "oarers" like the old pictures in the history books. The school can offer Oaring 101 to all the teenage boys who want to work on the green stripper barge. Finally all the lake studies will have a focal point (or two). The casino goers will park on the old fairgrounds which will be Wisconsin's first green casino parking lot. There will be asian-style bike shuttles to take the casino goers back and forth from the green casino parking lot to the green casino because of course three blocks is too far to walk for most casino goers whether they be drunk yet or not. The asian-style bike shuttles will be peddled by the kids who dropped out of the soccer camp because they were tired of being called dough-heads by their new coach. Mary Rowley will lower the prices at the Gooseblind, as will the owners of Adams Rib and Harbor Lights, and they will all become very successful because people can then (finally) afford to eat a meal out in this town. New stores will crop up everywhere in Green Lake, pawn shops, condom kiosks and yellow check-cashing/advance stores will abound. Prosperity will be inevitable as all the lucky winners at the roulette wheel will run out and spend their money on extravagant things like new Cobalt boats and educational games for their children. I don't know what we will call the Casino. but the stripper barge will be called Highknockers Lowdown. Love it!
