I would like to hear people's opinions on the Supreme Court race and the Dept. Education candidates.

All I have heard about Shirley Abrahamson so far is that she has been a judge for 30+ years. Far too long for any elected official if you ask me! Please put in your two cents worth, I'd really like to hear what others have to say.

I am voting for Tony Evers for State Superintendent. He has been a teacher, principal, and district administrator. He's also been the deputy superintendent of public instruction for the last 8 years. The other person running has a nursing degree, but no real educational experience as far as I can tell. She is an advocate for virtual schools. One big difference between the two is that Fernandez supports the QEO law which will put a cap on teacher pay without arbitration and Evers wants to end it. There is an informative article in the Capitol Times about this race. http://www.madison.com/tct/news/stories/445223

I'm voting for Evers because of his experience working in school systems as teacher,in leadership capacities, and as the deputy state superintendent. I just don't think Fernandez has the experience necessary for this position.

Last blogger...thanks for the link. Very good, unbiased article regarding both of the State Superintendent candidates. Unfortunately, I have to go in the other direction with my vote...Evers has too many cronies to take care of if he is elected. New blood like Fernandez will help turn our state schools around and she is a savvy businessperson on top of it.
Sounds to me like she promises
a good combination of fiscal responsibility and a passion for the education of our children.

Don't get me started on teacher's unions and Jim Doyle wanting to abolish the QEO (which is basically a 3.8 percent minimum salary package increase for teachers).

I didn't get a guaranteed minimum 3.8 percent raise this year. I also didn't get the entire summer off. I didn't get a week off for Christmas and another week off for spring break. I also pay more than teachers for my health insurance. The QEO is more than adequate for teachers in these tough economic times. Let's keep it and hold our taxes to a reasonable level. Who do these people think they are?

By the way, an “unbiased” article in the Madison-based Capitol Times? Now I’ve heard everything. Sounds like someone's selling a bridge.
