Wed. School Board Meeting 6:30

Does anybody know what the voting requirements are for the Wednesday meeting? Resident of he school district, township, city? And has anybody seen the agenda posted anywhere? They are required to post it 72 hours in advance but I haven't seen it.

The board meeting agenda is posted on the school web page. From the school home page click on the school board link. The meeting agenda link is right under that.

If you live in the district and you’re 18 or older, you can vote on Wednesday.

This is the looniest idea the Green Lake School District has had in years. This school’s priority should be improving education and looking at ways to make the district more cost-effective — not prancing around on vacant land outside of town and showing off to other area schools.

The School Board deserves to be laughed at and embarrassed for asking residents to shell out $230,000 for 38 acres (over $6,000 per acre) when the district is already getting several acres for free in the ABA. Making matters more absurd, the district faces severe budget deficits starting in 2010-2011 even after making cuts in recent years.

We’ve been told that grant money “could” pay for the entire 38 acres. What we haven’t heard is how, or the likelihood of that happening. Why is the district not sharing more information on the possibility of other grants? I’m not about to vote “yes” and just assume someone else will pay.

Furthermore, the administration has yet to clearly explain how this land would be used. Instead, it’s just vague references to “educational studies,” trails and whatnot. Basically, the students would go out there a few times a year, traipse around and learn about nature, or investigate the history of Sunnyside. We can do that without spending $230,000. Sunnyside will provide nothing the school can’t already utilize for free. Wetlands and other lands are available to the public at Snake Creek and the White River Marsh, both located in Green Lake County.

Until now, I stood by the Green Lake School District and its administration in most instances. Not any more. This leads me to believe that our school leaders are acting on their own wishes and dreams rather than listening to what the public wants. Basically, the Sunnyside idea makes me question their judgment and intentions.

Let’s be painfully honest: This proposal is an attempt to show off to other area school districts and build an “environmental awareness” shrine to ourselves. District residents must ask themselves: Is this really necessary? Will it bring in more students to aid the crumbling enrollment? And are there other subjects the district needs to focus on besides the environment constantly?

Get ready for the circus.

Ditto to what "vote no" says above. However, please do not include all of the school board members in supporting this absurd plan. There are three that I know of who actually have common sense and want the current administration to act responsibly for a change.

The other school board members have done a fine job or really messing up our school! Yes, I mean you, Wendy, Gordy and Celeste. I truly look forward to the day when you are no longer on the school board.

The current administration is a nightmare. I can't wait until they are gone for good.

I have heard that there will be paper ballots for this vote. That is a good idea. I hope that common sense will prevail and that will be the end of this matter.

The school administration should be required by law to operate within the annual budget. The fact that our school system is in debt is simply not acceptable. If Ken Bates cannot operate the school in a fiscally responsible manner, then he should be replaced.

I personally would love some acreage in the country! I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT ! Wouldn't it be grand if all of us went out and bought property that we could not afford and did not need? Oh yeah, I forgot, that is one of the main reasons that banks and mortgage companies are crumbling? I guess that Ken Bates, Wendy Schultz, Tom Eddy and their pals don't want to deal with reality. THE SCHOOL IS IN DEBT.

Please attend the meeting and vote NO to this land purchase. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!

Is this vote binding, or just a "pulse measuring vote"? Can they ignore the vote results and go against our wishes in closed session? I realize that would be professional suicide, but since they seem to have a desire to put a new brass bell on a sinking ship, I know they don't grasp the reality of their situation.

It's nice that little "e" has time to visit this blog site while at work.. I wonder if it falls within the policy guidelines for acceptable internet use!

It is very appropriate for Mr. Tracy to be posting a notice about the meeting. How could anyone feel that this is unappropriate? Seems to me that trying to reach as many residents as possible is part of his job. Since many of you were recruiting people to attend the meeting in this blog, why not post the cancellation here also? The cancellation was posted in many different places, trying to reach all possible school district residents. Kudos to him for signing the post!

I agree. The blog is for everyone and particularly for good information. (if possible) so I am glad he posted. Thanks.

The school board agenda for Weds. 12/17 includes "Approval of co-op athletic teams with Markesan".

So it appears we are exporting our athletics to Markesan.

If this passes, there may be one home football game in GL. How many players will commute to Markesan to practice? Is this a two-way street or one-way only?

What are the positions of the players and coaches? Are the numbers really too low to field a team or what?

What are the particulars of this issue?

This seems like a sad time for GL sports. Hard to accept...
