Another Sign of the Booming Economy

I hear Heidel House is going to be closing its dining rooms on Wednesdays and Thursdays through April. I don't remember this ever happening as long as it has been around since the late 40's.

If you want to survive in a seasonal business or this economy, you have to live by the creed... If it doesn't pay, don't open. It's simple as that.

It's been written before on this blog that we're fortunate we have the business we do have that manage to remain open for us. Too many folks take them for granted. Businesses can't just run the lights, heat and pay labor in hopes that someone will show up to buy something. That only lasts for so long. I applaud the Heidel House for making the hard decisions to do what needs to be done to continue to be a viable business in our community.

If you go to Door County in the "off season" you will be lucky to find any place to eat! Most places there shut down for the winter. That just makes good business sense. Especially now that the economy is so messed up. We were at Kmart in Ripon right before Christmas, and the manager came over the loud speaker, thanking everyone for shopping there because they had such a bad year. The guy was almost crying. It was the strangest announcement I have ever heard in a store.

You sound like a complete know it all. Or maybe you think points are given for stating the obvious. Anyone starting a new business is doing so with an element of risk. If it were all so black and white as you suggest, there would not be any new businesses.

Go back to sleep.

GROTB you sound like such a grouch. Seasonal Business was only saying it's hard to survive in business around here. I think you sound like one of the persons he/she mentions, who take what we do have in our businesses for granted.
