The BP Gas is up to $3.42/gallon today. By Friday who knows.

You would think with the high gas prices, people would cut out unnecessary travel. Think again. I drive only when I have to, and group my shopping and errands in order to save on gas. While I certainly don't approve of oil company greed, the only way for us to fight it is to lower the demand. If we conserved on usage, the price would in fact go down. We all complain but how many of you are doing anything about it? Fat Americans!

Sensible,
You are correct in saying that we should try to conserve gas to lower prices, but don't just blame oil company greed. The State Tax on gasoline is $.32/gal, and the state's minimum markup law doesn't help.

the gas tax in Illinois is .60/gallon

So why is gas in Illinois cheaper than in WI?

Lurker,
Check your source. Mine says that Illinois gasoline tax was $.19/gal as of 12/31/06. See http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/245.html.

Illinois has much better public transportation that Wisconsin. Our rail system sucks here in Cheeseland. (We really don't even have one). We had a better rail system 100 years ago! (Progress?) Regarding the WI gas tax, I think the fat-heads in Madison figure that stuff out. Ask the Guv! I heard that DOYLE is an acronym for "didn't oll yous learn enything?"

Hey Ying Yang...that's a bad stereotype...plus those chinamen have more cars then we do

Brown Bob, I don't think that is a negative stereotype, I sure didn't intend for it to be. It is admirable that other cultures use bicycles as transportation. In the bigger cities of the world, I am sure it is faster to bike than sit in a car in traffic. The only people you see on bikes around here are the chronic drunks who had their driving privilages revoked. (oops is that a stereotype?)
