Could Someone Please Act Inappropriately Out There?

I apologize for the lack of current news or events on here right now. Nobody is fighting on the courthouse, we have to wait for any new development meetings, no one is tearing down houses of historical interest. There just isn't a heck of a lot going on. Could please act out so we can have something to read? Sorry, I'm bored.

How about this- the Public Works Committee sent out a memorandum with the last water bill, reminding (?) us that we actually have city ordinances! Among those listed were: Yards must be kept clean and free of debris/ NO ice shanties are allowed to be stored in yard areas within the city limits, NO boats, trailers, shorestations, snowmobiles, jet skis and any other rec. vehicles can be stored for the winter if front yards. I would like to know how/when these ordinances are going to be enforced, as they obviously are NOT. Will the city issue citations for noncompliance? You can drive up and down the city streets and see blatant examples of these ordinance violations. Several houses in town are shameful eyesores, to say the least. (I won't mention any names) I want to see some action taken regarding these matters. If GL is trying to attract folks to this city, yards full of broken toys, dead cars, old scrap and garbage is hardly the way to do it.

How about this one:
The city raised the vendor fees for public events by $5 and they are charging $125 for the first FREE concert in the park and then $25 for each subsequent concert. So you get penalized around here if you hold an event to bring people to town.

I agree!!!!! There has been a mobile home parked for a very long time in a driveway near highknocker park.It has been there through all of the seasons.
Does anyone not notice it while on patrol. This is not a mobile home park !!!!

How about all of the home business signs ?

Re: anonymous' comments on the mobile home near Highnocker Park, I fully agree. Green Lake is not a mobile home park! There is another one (or is it a "camper"?) parked at the home near the boat landing. There are many boats and other rv's stationed right in the front yards in my neighborhood. While I am truly not a snob, I do believe this brings down the look of the entire city. Also, regarding the home business signs, I haven't noticed too many, but one in particular across from the bank is WT if you catch my drift. GL is trying to portray a quality image, and is sadly failing. The business signs downtown aren't much better. Most cities have uniformity codes that must be complied with. Not to mention (oops, I just did!)that horrid pink store smack dab in the center of our downtown. Pepto Bismol Pink is NOT going to attract tourists! The place is hideous! Why is GL so lax on making and enforcing rules? Others cities do it, and succeed. Really! Let's get on the schtick!

any - why don't you find a toilet plunger and give yourself a good clear out. You're so full of yourself you make my teeth itch.
Take up a hobby, go play with the traffic, anything that keeps your sorry ass away from here...

Well, I obviously touched raw nerve in your itchy mouth...While I do have opinions, I personally think they are good ones. I am sure that many folks in GL agree with much of what I say. There IS room for improvement. If you weren't such a vulgar, small-minded ass you could see that many people have hope and vision for a better future, here in GL and elsewhere. As far as playing in traffic, there isn't any here in GL. Go figger.

go figger?...is that like a Turkish expression for harvesting figs?

"hope and vision for a better future"
isn't that what GW said before we invaded Iraq?

I don't get the backlash on Any. I think there are valid points. Any is just expressing her opinions. Again, isn't that what blogs are for?

Unknown said...

Expressing opinions is exactly what blogs are for, and I commend Chief Highknocker for his work on this site. It is great to see people contibuting their thoughts and ideas with good intentions. Of course people will disagree, and hopefully add to the discussions with their own contemplations. Sadly, some have nothing better to contribute but their own rancid gas. Go stink up some other blogsites! This one was intended for people who actually have something to say. I have to agree with most of what Any said and the responses from anonymous were uncalled for. If anonymous had a functioning brain, he would address the points that upset him and relate his opinions with sincerity. Keep up the great work, Chief. This blogsite has the potential to effect positive change in the community.

only a pea brained moron could possibly construe "hope and vision for a better future" as a negative statement....what a jerk!

I guess the Chief asked for someone to act inappropriately and he got it!
What is it they say about opinions being like a**holes...everybody has one?

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one in Green Lake who feels that the pink store is hideous. This is not a personal attack on the owners, nor on their business but rather a declaration of how ugly that color is. Look at the situation objectively. What if the real estate office on the corner painted their building bright lime green? What if Little Corporal painted their building intense purple? How about the paint store choosing neon orange for their exterior? It would look awful and you know it. This is no different. The pink store brings down the entire look of our downtown area. It is gaudy and tasteless. It's no wonder the building hasn't sold yet, it's a strain on the eyes to even look at the place. Many cities and towns have adopted a uniformity code for their downtown shopping districts with great success. The Green Lake Chamber is trying in earnest to attract tourists and shoppers to our quaint little city. There are many things that could be done to help, and simple improvements like paint colors shouldn't cause controversy. I'm glad that someone had the guts to speak out. Green Lake deserves better.

Hey Anon.

What color is your house? And your car? I'm thinking I don't like either one and want to make it my personal business!

The pink building has been there for years and years, I almost forgot it was pink. I think it is nice that buildings can have their own "personality" but some people may like uniformity, similar to cities like Lake Forest, Illinois or Mequon ect. Should our city government control it??? I don't know...

Anonymous said...

The color of your car has nothing to do with anything. However, the color of your house is another matter. Almost every upscale subdivision in the country ensures architectural uniformity, deciding not only what color(s) your house can be, but what style and size it can be as well. There are in fact entire cities that maintain a uniform look by enforcing their chosen plan.

In the US and in cities around the world, homes on the list of historically preserved buildings must comply with a preselected list of historic paint colors. It's not a matter of losing your personal freedom. If you haven't noticed, you don't have the personal freedom to drive 120 mph down Mill Street, or the personal freedom to walk into the bank with a gun. There are rules for a reason. Our downtown is dying and needs all the help it can get.

Anonymous said...

Hey that mouseables sign across from the bank is WT. someone should burn it. it makes downtown look like a trailer park. it think there's no signage regulations because no one in this town can agree on them and no one has the balls to make a rule and enforce it. plus, even if they did enforce it, the local businesses probably can't afford to comply with it.

Anonymous said...

I like pink. It would be cool if they'd paint the courthouse yellow. Yellow 'n pink, wadia fink?

Chief Highknocker said...

Jeez, I thought I was opininated. I love those opinions out there but I agree with whoever said to back up those opinions even if you think it might be foolish or stupid. Just attacking someone because you don't like their "idea" only makes the posting opinion look foolish. The whole point of this is for a free and open discussion and I really don't expect everybody to agree with me. If they do I'm not doing something write. or is it right.

We should not have to insult one another. I am glad we have this open forum. I only hope that some of the people we need reading it are doing so, and that we will see some changes in this town. We do have ordinances that cover such things as signs and campers and run down property etc. Our problem is that they are not inforced.
Does anyone know who is supposed to police such matters or is it only when a neighbor complains that anything is done?

Any truth to the rumor that Mayor Pareez wants to install a toll booth on 23, right in front of the old Hinky Dinks? Just asking....

Anonymous said...

Anyone know the plan for Hinky Dinks? I had heard it was going to be a restaurant again but the progress seems really slow.

Be patient Chief-

You and GL are only weeks away from the start of 4 months of inappropriateness. Isn't this what we all look forward to each year?

Oh, and let's not forget the fireworks !

Hey Chief,

I don't know if this qualifies as the right kind of gossip, rumor, or innuendo, but as I understand it, there's a Land Use permit on file in the Zoning Department where a local contractor stated they could build a 2278 sq. ft. addition for $58,795. That breaks down to $25.80 per sq. ft. I would think that if they really can build for that price, not only will they be the most popular builders in the area, but we should consider them to build the new County Courthouse/Jail. According to Potter Lawson, it's about 101,000 sq. ft. At those prices, it would cost us $2,605,800.... a far cry cheaper than the 20-20 million on the table.

don't know where to post comments regarding news feed... It is amazing the delay the DA's office had in charging people. The 23 year old mother is the second case where 2 years plus had gone by before charges were filed. I thought JIm Camp was a good DA but this is ridiculous. Hopefully Wyn Collins can do a better job.
