Lake Levels

This information regarding the lake levels was sent to me by a friend and I thought it might be helpful to people out there who are following any dam postings or are just interested.

The above site is so that you can read the lake levels online.

The ruling:

The following reflects the corrected elevations and water levels for operations as required under 2-WP-901.
1 The city of Green Lake so operate its dam that the level of Green Lake not exceed 796.49 feet. Mean sea level (MSL) datum between May 1 and September 30 , insofar as the proper operation of the dam makes possible.

2 That starting September 30, the dam shall be so operated as to lower Green Lake slowly to elevation 795.74 feet by October 31.

3 That Green Lake shall be maintained as closely as practicable at elevation 795.74 feet by the proper operation of the dam between October 31 and the spring break-up, which will occur in March or April of the following year.

4 that between the time of the spring break-up and May 1 the dam shall be so operated that the level of Green Lake does not build up above its authorized maximum of 796.49 feet insofar as the full opening of all gates and other discharge facilities make this possible.

The current maximum, and minimum water levels were established by the Public Service Commission (PSC) in 1952 under Docket 2-WP

Somebody, please stir up this blogsite before I die of boredom. Hasn't anyone done anything completely inappropriate or stupid this week in Green Lake? Come on people, fess up!

I did some really irresponsible, horrible things...but I'm one of the EVIL CABAL impostors....Muh-hah-hah-haa! I'm not at liberty to say/admit what I've done but people can just make something up and I'll take credit (I love the attention).

Can't believe how much this sight has gone stagnant since the school board elections, the city elections, etc. The best anyone can do around here is complain about the level of the lake and the beer at Lawsonia. If the golfers drink enough beer and use the lake to relieve themselves then we'll gain on both fronts...nice frothy, green waves!

Since this blogsight petered out there really isn't anything to do around here if you can't get on and B'tch about something.

Chief...hurry,wake up...we need controversy whether it's real or contrived.

Speaking of school, it has been so HOT in the school building that students are wearing tank tops in the classrooms. How nice when the taxpayers at home turn their heat down and layer their clothing to stay warm, that the school is cranking out the heat. I see that the doors to the work-out room are still propped open in the morning, too. How GREEN of the school to be wasting our precious energy resources.

garage sale weekend coming up.... I am sure there will be plenty of people screaming about all the traffic....

Anonymous said...

Yes, there will be loads of traffic jams, just like Lake Geneva in the summer. We should drop the rummage sale idea as we did with Winterfest. Why have more traffic than necessary!

The worst part is when those darn cigarette type boats cause traffic jams...and big waves.

Interesting about the tank tops. The school's own dress code forbids them, but I'm sure it's not enforced.

Lighten up everyone. We have endured a rough winter. Lets enjoy the next few months. Support the area activities and have fun.

Gotta give you props on that one Shadow. Long winters in Wisconsin...followed by short (sometimes too short!), sweet Summers!

Hey...did anyone read the soundoffs in the Green Lake Reporter this week? The one about raising the south lawson Bridge? with our tax dollars? Chief, why don't you do a blog on this. It is controversial. The city is in the middle of buying the land to expand the clay street launch which will force the boats to go under the bridge. We know 2 aldermen want it for their own boats on the canal. This city can't afford to raise the bridge for only a few people. The bridge is not in bad condition....where is all this money coming from?

city gal the evil cabal is behind the raising of the south Lawson bridge. There are a number of projects like this that will cost the city money that we could use more wisely. Hire a go-to-guy.(Mike Havey's proposal).

Where can one find "Mike Havey's Proposal"?

Mike Havey has been a great friend to our city. He applauds our city council but realizes that they are just concerned citizens trying to do a job. We must join the 21st century soon by hiring an experienced city administrator. Towns are dying all around us-we don't have to. We need a professional go-to-guy.

An paid administrator for a city of 1,100 people doesn't seem too feasible. I like the idea but economies of scale don't favor this type of expense for such a small locale as Green Lake.

The people in city government are supposed to know what the hell they are doing. The idea of hiring someone to do the things that our elected officials do is absurd, even if it makes sense on some level. Maybe the job of Mayor (for instance) should not be an elected position but rather we (as a community) should simple hire someone to run the city instead. Is this even legal?

Instead of raising the bridge...lower the lake level. Yeah, this will work for everyone and increase tax revenue by creating more lake lots. With the lake level lowered "big boats" will be able to get under the existing bridge from the Mill Pond onto the Lake. If the lake stays low, dirt/sand/fill can be added around the entire lake thus extending the shoreline and adding $$$$ lake lots. What was once wasted 'water', will now be prime lake frontage...I saw them do something like this in Dubai and don't worry, they would never think of doing something like this in Lake Geneva.

The sound-off letter about the bridge on South Lawson in the Green Lake Reporter and the blog message from City Gal has it incorrect. The City requested stimulus dollars from the state to fix both bridges (built before 1930) and money to redo South Lawson Drive which has had drainage issues since the City took the street over from the state many years ago. Bridges have an expectancy of 50 years according to the state. What would happen to our City if one of these bridges failed in the near future? We are trying to be proactive here! The City has had the bridges inspected and the suggestion was to replace them when we could afford to do so. We jumped at the chance to get stimulus money since the state has received money from the federal government.

I personally have lived here eight years and this is not a personal agenda for me. However, I do represent district three citizens and they would appreciate the bridge being raised so they can get their boats under the bridge early in the spring, should any rebuilding occur.

Think about any new development that might occur at the County Court house and safety building. Wouldn't if be great for boat traffic to use the Canal Street landing and possibly park their boats at a Millpond pier so more people could get into our downtown in the future? Boaters are always asking for more space to park. Business people are begging for new customers. We need to think long range and not just want to stay like we have been since the sixties. Many citizens want "no change" but that also means no new businesses and no new revenue to fix anything in this city. We have streets that are crumbling and sewer and water mains that need replacing.

If anyone thinks it is easy working on the City budget, I would love to see you at our budgeting meetings this fall. It was an eye opener for me five years ago when I decided to start serving on the council.
