City of Green Lake Elections Results

These are the vote totals for the City of Green Lake. I haven't gotten the Town of Brooklyn results yet.

#1 Rowley 54
Meagher 23

#2 Jones 60
Mirr-Frank 45

#3 Parise 77
Wagner 53

For the School Board Elections, these are the City Totals without the Town of Brooklyn but I do know who won the outcome already without the other townships. The top two are Grim and Reabe.

Grim 163
Reabe 141
Sandberg 140
King 128

Look carefully at the vote total between for Reabe and Sandberg. For those of you who didn't feel like voting keep your mouth shut when you feel like complaining about school issues in the coming cycle. Your vote counts more than you know in local elections.

For School Board, these are only the city results. Remember, there’s also the Township of Brooklyn and three other Townships that all contribute for GL School Board. You can’t make judgments until all the votes are in.

I understand the city folk"s didn't know what distict they are voting in so they what just voted talk about scary they don't know ????? doesn'the state investagate stuff like this to keep voteing honest??????

Anonymous said...

If you could see how goofy the city of Green Lake is divided up, you probably wouldn't know what district you lived in either. They need to go back to the two districts like they had before, PLUS you would have a bigger and better selection of people to run for office.

Now that the newspapers are out, what does everyone think of the election results?

Anonymous said...

I agree with second blog if people voted in the wrong district than we (the city) have illegal votes possible for the wrong people we don't want in office I think the poll workers should have been aware of what was going on? the state election board should be brought in and this should be investagated and corrected we owe it too all of us that voted legal in the right district

My, my, according to the local newspaper, it's now $23,650 in legal fees for the free ABA land. Not so insignificant, is it? Maybe now certain School Board members can stop defending this spending spree as a “bargain.”

The money we frittered away to pay a lawyer to "negotiate" that land is over 3 percent of the deficit the school faces in 2010-2011. That’s a relatively high percentage of the debt, considering there’s plenty of public land in this area already. I can’t wait until the referendum talk surfaces again.

RE: people who don't know what district they are voting in

I voted in the city and the poll workers were very precise in confirming my name, address and district. Don't even imply that there was any wrong-doing or that erroneous votes were cast. I never remember what district I am in until I get to the poll and ask, but I do know who I am voting for. It's a non-issue.

Anonymous said...

Thank you to the blogger who testified that everyone in the City voted in the CORRECT district. As a poll worker I also assure you that no one is allowed to vote - in any election - until we check the District Census List to be SURE everyone voted in THE CORRECT district/ward! Thank you to the City voters who are always very patient when we check the lists before they can vote!

Congratulations to all of the winners in this week's election. I am especially pleased that Joe Parise was elected and am confident in his abilities. Congrats to Mary Rowley also, she is dynamic person and has a lot of knowledge and experience to contribute.

I am especially pleased that we have a new school board member, congratulations to Meade Grim! His input will be most welcome to help the school get back on the right track. Right now the school is on about 5 different tracks and most of them are leading nowhere.

$23,650 in legal fees for the free ABA land! Yes, the story was (of course) in the Ripon Commonwealth. I still do not understand how Ken Bates moved forward with a decision to hire this lawyer without school board approval. Did he have the authority to do this on his own? Did Wendy Schultz and Gordy Farrell have anything to do with this? All these unanswered questions, still unanswered months later. Nobody is stepping up to take responsibility.

Considering the fact that this legal expenditure was apparently solely authorized by Ken Bates, (as nobody has come forward with information to the contrary) then I believe it is Ken Bates responsibility to pay back the $23,650 from his own pocket. His actions were completely out of line.

My wife and I voted and the poll workers were very confused, did not know what they were doing, we were told we were in two different districts, they were very unconcerned about us and the voter behind us. We almost voted wrong, the guy behind us almost voted wrong and one other person we talked to later did indeed vote wrong. The poll workers all sit around and gossip and are very uncaring about the voters. That was my experience in the city of Green Lake.

Anonymous said...

We as Green Lake City voters strongly disagree with the previous post. Despite being there at a very busy time and therefore waiting in a line, we were very impressed with the poll workers' professionalism and kindness - even in many cases they needed to correct errors/ommissions in the District listing provided by the COUNTY. Every voter SHOULD know BEFORE coming to vote who they were going to vote for. Their District's Alderman's candidates were the only names on that ballot. It is THE VOTER'S responsibility to tell the poll worker if their District's candidate that they wanted to vote for was not on the ballot given them. Having worked at the polls in the past, ballots can not be finalized or turned in until the number of ballots cast in each district is exactly the same as the number of voters who voted in that District. Don't criticize until you have sat in their chairs for 14 hours serving our community so we can freely chose our leaders.

Interesting that Meade had a surge of support in this election. His presence on the School Board should make things interesting for the Administration. As we all recall, Meade was the one leading the 2007 charge against e. Jon Tracy from various “frustrated parents” (people who wrote letters to the School Board and held a secret meeting at the Heidel House to discuss their concerns).

crabby appleton said...

I don't believe you are correct. The voters are there to vote and it is up to the poll workers to be on the ball and direct them. Why should a voter have to tell the workers that they gave them the wrong ballot? That should never happen and when it happens to us every time it must happen constantly. They are paid very well and I know many people who would love to have their jobs. Green Lake can't even supply voting results to the radio and tv outlets. In the past they can not even count votes correctly. So don't give me that bunko about them being so precise and professional. We were voting at a time when no others were in the building and they were very confused. This happens at every voting experience in Green Lake.

Anonymous said...

I didn't know that poll workers were paid, I thought it was voluntary. Since the average age of the poll workers is about 97, maybe some of us younger people should start applying for the job. How much does it pay?

Anonymous said...

I had no idea that Mead Grim was the one leading the 2007 charge against e. Jon Tracy. Had I known that, I would have voted for him!

Now that we will have a more balanced school board, I hope that necessary changes will be made within the school. The most logical place to start would be to combine the administrator position with the principal's as Princeton did recently. Also, in nearly every school our size the role of curriculum coordinator is usually performed by a teacher or the principal. Green Lake is a tiny school, we don't need three people doing the job that one person could easily handle.

Fuzzy Little Dog said...

Great idea, last poster. Do the math, by combining the Administrator and Principal positions and also combine the curriculum coordinator position with a teaching position, you'll have saved roughly $160,000 in wages alone, right off the top. That is without taking into consideration benefits and extra costs incurred by multiple employees DOING THE SAME THING. Additionally, by having a qualified teacher also fulfilling the curriculum coordinator position the school could probably justify that teacher maintaining full-time status.
Now that makes very good fiscal sense.

I think the fuzzy little dog is very smart. He could go on Animal Planet and do fiscally responsible tricks. I think we need fuzzy little dogs in Washington D.C, too!

Anonymous said...

I thought the Obama's were going to get a fuzzy little dog. Whatever happened to that? There was a story on the breeder who sold a dog to Joe Biden and his family...said she'd never do it again in a million years. In light of what's happened to our beloved country since Barry and Joe took the reigns I'll bet there are millions of people saying the same thing..."Never again, not in a million years".

If we are lucky, there will still be a glimmer of hope after the next 3-plus years of lunacy. Now that can be considered an Audacity of Hope.

To you, fuzzy little dog, I say WOOF!

Fuzzy Little P.O.'ed Dog said...

Oh sure. I post something on here about the O-Blahma's and they go out and get a Portuguese water dog...couldn't even get an American dog - what a surprise!

It's an interesting breed and I find it even more interesting that Ted Kennedy has had the same breed for many years. One of his dogs was named Splash and I think the current one is Cappy. How special to see this revered man and his loving dog(s).

Do you think Mary Joe Kopeckney would appreciate the irony of Ted embracing "water dogs", especially one named 'Splash'? The name must remind Ted of the last sound she made.

Forget the dogs and the BS...stop taking our country down the drink! Come to think of it, speaking of drinks is right down Ted's alley. Gotta love those darn liberal Democrats.

We thought the election was over! Not so...

LouAnn Mirr-Frank lost the election to Tom Jones by 60 votes to 45 votes in District 2. She now has requested the city do a recount. I wonder what that will cost the city?

Anonymous said...

Yes, LuAnn’s recount is this Wednesday. By the way, for all you GL school board fans, there’s a provocative column by Aaron Becker in this week’s paper about the school board election. Check it out, I thought it was spot on.

Speaking of botched elections, is anyone around here planning on attending any Tea Parties on Tax Day? Do any of you have a Tea Party planned for Green Lake? Or are all of you happy with the way our country is currently being run, with out of control spending, bail-outs, impending socialism, etc...

to Fuzzy Little P.O.
ed Dog -

So you think it's a good idea to respond to a dying man giving a puppy to a child by reminding him of sins from his youth?

It's a free country and you can say whatever you want. But if anyone wonders why the Republicans are losing every election, I'll tell you. It's because of this type of vicious, mean-spirited attack in response to simple, even positive things.

It's a puppy for goodness sake. Find a meaningful issue and come up with some forward thinking solutions that will help us all get out of this mess we're in.

Does anyone know where the closest Tea Party is? I would attend one!

I was hoping there would be a Tea Party in Ripon, birthplace of the Republican Party. I have not yet heard of one being planned there.

Hey all you tea party and dog fuzzies! First of all the O'Bama's needed an alergy free dog. They are all foreign dogs: Shiz Tsu, Poodle, Lasa Apso, etc...so get over it.
Second: The law was broken at the city elections and it is time for it to be resolved! I, too was asked as I am every election...what district I was in, and I could have taken any district I wanted! One of the judges actually told me that she thought I was in a different district. I said look at the map and she said that she couldn't figure out the district map! It is time to get this problem sorted out for once and for all!!! It has occurred for years and results in illegal voting! The reason it was so blatant this year is because every district had a race going on! That was a first in a long time. The incompetence going on at the election was just terrible!
I hope there is a total revote done properly with new judges!

Father Time said...

To City Gal - absolutely right on the lack of professionalism and organization at the polls. Too many matronly types who spent more time talking and shushing each other and not enough time verifying what was going on...I saw it for myself and was given an incorrect ballot the first time until I pointed out the error.

To the anonymous poster who stated, "So you think it's a good idea to respond to a dying man giving a puppy to a child by reminding him of sins from his youth?"...Give me a freakin' break.

Ted Kennedy should have been incarcerated for the 'sins of his youth' and not allowed to serve one moment as an elected (appointed) political official. At a minimum, he should have been charged with vehicular manslaughter and served his time.

Oh, poor Teddy and his loving family...just a bunch of losers riding on the coattails of their corrupt family patriarch, Joe Kennedy. They are all a bunch of crooks, swindlers and cheats and Teddy did well to follow in their footsteps.

I'm sorry, there should be no pity for a man like Ted Kennedy - why don't you spend a little time researching the Elder Senator from Massachusetts 'real' background. He was, and is, a POS!

It is ignorant to state "the sins from his youth"...I don't think killing someone qualifies for inclusion in youthful indiscretions. Sorry but, Old Teddy is getting what he deserves and I for one hope he has a long and painful experience....It is called penance.

Here is a statement from Ted which he made 4 years after killing Mary Jo Kopechne:
"Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law?
Or is there one system for the average citizen
and another for the high and mighty?"
- Senator Ted Kennedy, 1973...
Funny that he should ponder such a thing when he knows the answer from first hand experience. But alas, there is a God and now Teddy is getting his comeuppance.

I am, however, a dog lover so I hope the Obama's enjoy the new addition...hopefully 'Bo' won't need a teleprompter to know when to bark.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Ted Kennedy, did you know that Ted graduated from prep school (Milton Academy) in 1950 with only a C average. Despite his terrible grades, Teddy (like brother Robert) was admitted to Harvard as a "legacy", because his older brothers and father had graduated form there with such distinction.

- Yet even at Harvard, young Ted floundered.
- In his sophomore year he was expelled for cheating. He had been failing Spanish and feared it would keep him off the varsity football team.
- He paid a friend to take the exam for him.
- Ted's friend, however, was recognized when he turned in the exam book.

- Both lads were expelled, but were advised that they could apply for readmission in a year if they demonstrated responsible citizenship.
- It was a shame and disgrace, but the family would manage to keep it a secret until Teddy ran for the Senate.

Sadly, his record goes downhill from there.

Anonymous said...

To city gal - where is your proof any elections results were incorrect? Any errors on the county supplied sheets were corrected and given back to the county. You can get a copy of the voting record by paying for a copy of this public document. It does not tell you who citizens voted for but that they voted. It also shows the corrections made in each district for those that were incorrect on the county supplied forms.

Isn't it wonderful that Obama has now opened travel and unlimited money transfers between the U.S. and Cuba. And isn't it wonderful that some of our brightest and best (Sean Penn, Naomi Campbell, Jesse Jackass..Sorry, Jesse Jackson, et al.) can go visit American Hating Hugo Chavez down in Venezuela and talk all kinds of crap about THEIR own country (OUR country) and everyone (liberal socialist dems?) get all googly-eyed and say yes, we are an evil country and we should be punished.
Oh, almost forgot, Russia is presently planning to place nuclear bombers in either Cuba or Venezuela...I guess they too want to get closer, warmer and fuzzier with the new Prez.

And yes, it is so beautiful and touching that our president...at one time the most powerful position in the free world...would go to foreign countries that looked to the US for guidance, assistance and support and BOW DOWN to their leaders showing deference and apologize for America's arrogance.

Yes, Joe Biden is right in saying how the United States is now in the strongest position they've ever been with regard to national security. Hmnn...North Korea is firing missiles; Iran is continuing their nuclear enrichment program for "energy" purposes; Russia is deploying/rearming nations within striking distance of the U.S...Ok, you're right VP Biden - everyone is safe and sound and tucked away for the night. What a dufuss!

Open your eyes and look around you. Our 'leaders' are not only weakening our position in the world, they are welcoming in the terrorists, tyrants, and those who would like nothing more than to see the United States fail.

I agree with you comrade. Life would be so much more simple if everyone was a democrat...we wouldn't have to look hard for the village idiot(s).

Hey, Chief:
Check this out.

http://www.postcrescent.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/99999999/APC0110/80221166

According to this site (and I believe it is correct based on some other names I looked up), GL is paying Bates 105,226 a year PLUS benefits that total 36,240 for a total of $141,466. Add to that Kneser's salary of $63,730 plus 19,578 for a total of 83,308 and this is not even including Tracey's salary (which did not come up). These are figures for 07-08. For 300 some students??
Absolute highway robbery considering the way things have gone for the past few years there.

What a sham paying out that kind of money to someone who isn't in the classroom with students, not to mention how inept she is. How many deadlines did she miss this school year? How many missplaced student applications? How many days off from work?
