Lindenwood Development & The School

There seems to be a big discussion under another post regarding the land use issue with the new development at the ABA. You might want to start posting that issue here.

Chief, how 'bout blogging the school employee salaries? Then student numbers each teacher has? Can the school afford to pay two teachers for 20 or fewer kids? What about aides? How many are there? What about the school counselor? Does she even do anything? She didn't when I attended school!

Ya, right. People are going to move to Green Lake to send their kids to an IB school. Don't think so...Look how many people have left. Enrollment is going DOWN and the programs have been in place a while now. People make programs work and the people in question here are not in it for kids.

I think the idea of "transparency" with regard to spending by the GLSD would do wonders to quell the restlessness of our community. The overwhelming theme on this blog site seems to be the school district and it's administration, school board, teachers and programs.

Perhaps if the community was more aware of the costs involved with the school (salaries, administrative costs, legal expenses, discretionary spending, etc.) we, the taxpayers, would have more factual information upon which to base our opinions.

I am led to believe that the administration will not release financial information to those on the school board who have repeatedly requested such information. Once again, I am not certain of the actuality of this statement as I have only been told this has been happening. If anyone has factual information of these requests, and subsequent denials, please advise the rest of us who put our tax money into the coffers of GLSD. There is no reason this information should not be public, after all, these are our tax dollars being spent, and the futures of our children are at risk if the money is not being spent responsibly.

Even the largest school district in the state, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS)has ALL of their spending information made public on the website http://mps.spendingreports.com/search.aspx.
There is also a statewide website on which many school districts, Counties, and governmental agencies report all of their spending, http://www.crgnetwork.com/

If the information I mentioned earlier is true about the administration / staff not wanting to make a complete and transparent accounting of their financial dealings, then there is a problem. The truth is...if nothing wrong/questionable has been going on then what is there to hide? This should not even be an issue.

Things haven't changed just because our nation has fallen upon tough economic times to now become fiscally responsible. This should always have been the case. But now, especially in light of the economy and school consolidation, if we wish to maintain a school in Green Lake there is a shared responsibility by the community as a whole to provide the financial resources and communal support, but an even larger responsibility by our school/community leaders to provide us with the assurance that the investment we are making with them is being judiciously and effectively spent.

I welcome any comments or additional factual information regarding this issue as I think it would do a great deal to minimize emotional tirades based on rhetoric and hearsay. It's fantastic that people get so passionate about the school and education - it shows that our community really does care.
