Good! Congratulations Chuck!

Well, this will be interesting...

Anonymous said...

Does this mean, if I see Chuck on the steet today and give him a hug as a congratulations for his victory, I will be considered a "tree hugger"

Congrats to Chuck.

Can we finally now forget this nonsense about the City annexing the ABA? Good grief it will it be good to have that stupid idea gone.

Let's get Green Lake back to the sleepy little hamlet we all know and love.

Thank goodness, and congrats to Chuck. It's about time this place came to its senses.....

Any comments on the school board elections...? Wendy Schultz retained her seat, Dennis Deyo is newly elected as well as Amy Pipho. Congrats to them!

Good news- Congrats to Mayor Mirr, school board, & all GL,BoT - lets start a new day around here-

To the April 2, 3:38 PM responder I would say, try telling that to the retail, restaurant and other business owners who rely on "non-sleepy" business to support themselves and their families. Unless you have lost your sight, it is very obvious that sleepy isn't working anymore. If I didn't know better, I would think the Johnny Deep movie was being shot in Green Lake and not Oshkosh and instead of a movie about gangsters, it was a western and downtown Green Lake was at high noon just before a gun fight. All that's missing is the tumbleweed

Would you believe that our new mayor said he did not want the job when someone congratulated him and asked why he wanted the position. Is this really good for us citizens? What will he really DO for the city? Sad day for GL. No growth....

Anonymous said...

You sure he wasn't pulling your leg?
Congrats to Chuck!!!

the Mirr family including all brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles are very spiteful people and they do not like anyone who is not native to this area. Chuck has no idea what he is doing. He only ran because he is angry. Look for him to let others do his job for him. Maybe he will bail out soon.

Wendy, Wendy, Wendy….please you cannot be serious when you say “I’m grateful that people have put their faith in me again.” (Green Lake Reporter 04-03-08) You, a second term Green Lake Board of Education (BOE) member and BOE President won by a mere 23 votes over a virtual no-name new comer (No offence Bill) And explain …”and that the majority of voters feel a sense of satisfaction with the direction the district is going.” Do the words “landslide showings of 620 and 619 votes respectively send a message? I think so! Congratulations Dennis and Amy… I think it’s clear a majority of “voters are asking for some changes in the district’s direction” I think it’s time to get out of the hot tub!!

Anonymous said...

Well said, I could'nt agree more! I was very disappointed to hear that Wendy Schultz was re-elected. I am horrified at the "direction" the school has been going these past few years. The new school board needs to turn things around, the sooner the better.

Thank you, anonymous, April 3, about the school board - I agree 100%! The "majority" of the community has spoken - and they are obviously NOT satisfied! Congrats to Dennis and Amy! I believe they truly want what is best for all students. Change will not happen overnight, but at least now we are taking a step in the right direction.

Congratulations, blogger of April
3rd, 8:58pm. You have managed to establish yourself as having the ability to take a cheap shot at someone, ( in this case Wendy Schultz,) because they didn't come in first or second in a local election. At least Wendy had the courage to run, has been trying to work to better the school, has a long track record of being willing to raise her hand to try to help her community in many ways beyond serving on the board and is honorable. It's too bad people have to be so small and vindictive.

Yes, the community spoke. Perhaps new board members will bring new perspective. It will be interesting to see if the community can find a way to get more people to attend Green Lake. This Sunday's Northwestern newspaper features a story by Pat Wolff, covering the issue that Montello School District referendum failed..... again. That district is facing $935,000 in operations cuts over the next three years. One option for their board to consider with that community is ending having a school there at all. The Nondtello district is a victim of the state funding formula, declining enrollment, fewer families. Does that sound familiar?
This is not a problem unique to Green Lake. Many small districts throughout Wisconsin are struggling with similar issues.
Two new board members coming on the board or seven new board members cannot fix the problem that afordable housing and good jobs are difficult to find for average young familiies in communities with property values like places such as Green Lake.
You can talk about offering all the classes you want...more tech ed, languages, more reading, more high school electives. You can talk about having a different configuration for administration, or even different administrators.
You can talk about bringing back teachers who left or their jobs eliminated. The community still has to deal with the fact that there is a specific amount of dollars available each year in the funding. And based on the state formula, those dollars continue to shrink. You have to have a certain basic amount of kids sign up for a class to justify having that class.
If they don't have enough to sign up, those classes can't be offered.

The Green Lake communty has bigger issues than can be solved by several new people on the school board or whether Wendy is on the board or not. Hopefully, our community can focus on figuring out ways to bring jobs and affordable housing, and businesses here, to attract more people to ive here, not just vacation here.

First off- why does the Green Lake School system pay 110,000.00 a year for a superintendent. What does this man do for his salary? I thought that highly paid administrators were paid so because they could straighten out badly run businesses. But it looks like the 2 newly elected board members will have to do this for free.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't agree more! How insane that the "administration" gives themselves pay raises and then cuts another teacher or program. Many smaller schools share an administrator in order to save money. I also would like to know what this man does to earn that type of salary, and also what what are the salaries of e jon tracey and Jan Hauer and Deb Kneser (what does she DO besides screw up the school?) Our school needs to become competitive, performance based instititions where a salary is based on an employee's success rate. We need to cut waste in the school system AND give the kids a better education.

You have raised a lot of good points. You almost got to the point that no one wants to seem to mention, that being, how long do we think we are going to be able to afford the luxury of an individual community school? What were right and doable for the last 100 years ago may not be for now or 100 years into the future.

If you’re waiting for our elected officials to attract businesses, jobs and families to our towns, you could be waiting a while. I really don’t think this is on the top of their meeting agendas. The Green Lake industrial park has done well with new businesses and we have quite a number of community loyal long time businesses to be Very thankful for. But waiting for that major employer to land a huge company with a hundred good paying jobs in Green Lake or the surrounding area, might be a lot of wishful thinking. Making backup plans or giving some different thought to the way we have always done things, just in case that big company and all those jobs don’t come to town, might be a good idea.

In our area schools we continue to cut and cut and cut. Everyone seems to be hoping there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Is there even an end to this tunnel or should we turn around and go a different way? Should we finally start talking with other local communities? Does it make financial sense to combine 2-3 schools? Does it make sense to share administrators? Does it make sense to turn sports over to the community and let the users, the concessions, fund raisers, donations and attendance fees foot the bill for sports? This saves sports in our community and doesn't allow them to eventually fall to budget cuts. Don't think it couldn't happen.

You can hang your hat on the IB program and the Charter School, but I’m not sure that has a lot of hope either, especially if all the extra curricular programs are cut away. Most are gone or going, what else is left?

Anonymous said...

Funny how the administration claimed they had budget problems but could come up with money for an additional administrative post (Kneser) and heaven only knows how much cash to send staff for IB training. Any fiscal conservatives in Green Lake should be looking very carefully at the direction the school is going in.

Anonymous said...

I think it is great that some of the teachers have attended trainings out of state (Texas and Canada) but what is the cost of this-are there no trainings locally?

Anonymous said...

I DON'T think it's great that some teachers have attended trainings out of state. What a pathetic excuse for a free vacation. (attend a few classes and then put your lunch, dinner and hotel on an expense account, take the rest of the day off and go shopping and sight-seeing). Anything that can and should be learned can be accessed from a computer. What age are we living in here??? I also read in the last newsletter that was sent home that Chris Robinson attended IB informational training. He is not a teacher or a school staff, or on the school board. So what is all that about, and I bet you he was reiumbursed for his expenses as well. I have also heard that certain teachers and staff have gone to Europe, but of course some special IB grant paid for 100% of that??? There needs to be some strict accountability, all of these things need to be examined in detail.

Anonymous said...

Voters do have a voice, but are the school board members and the administrators listening?

These and other issues are why two new board members were just voted in by a very wide margin.

Ok, with Mayor Mirr set to take the helm, what should we look forward to being better in Green Lake?

His platform was Preserve, Protect and Improve. I'm sure we're protecting the lake, preserving the environment (the lake) and our sleepy little town atmosphere…what's going to improve?

Anonymous said...

Who actually won?
The City's website still lists Joe P. as mayor.
Trying to get some information from south of the border and it's non-existent. Thanks.

Parise will swear in Mirr on April 14th at the Council meeting. Mirr takes over on the 15th.

All of the IB training trips and education were and are paid for by a grant! I know that is going to kill you people trying so hard to find fault in the administration, BUT it is the truth, ouch! Truth hurts!

Ask your new board members they can tell you now all the dirty details!! (oh, except the details they can't tell you because they are now under legal constraints set forth by the state of Wisconsin, ouch again! Secrecy from your new board members). You just gotta love politics!

Good luck all!

IN THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR CHILDREN and the community, I want the International Baccalaureate program currently implemented in our Green Lake Schools to be withdrawn and ended immediately. A matter of this importance should be decided by the public vote and NOT by and administration that is not even wanted by the families of this school district. If we need to start a petition for the resignation of school officials, then that is what we should do. If you are not concerned about this issue, then you do not understand what is taking place right here in Green Lake!

IB schools attempt to instill an early acceptance of these UN "world government" standards and defies local control. These teachings about governmental loyalties are directly contrary to our US Constitutional government and our country's national sovereignty. These programs seem more about restructuring society and changing attitudes, than educating, and their founders are very up front about it.

The principles in the UN documents undermine the founding principles of the United States, the main one being that human rights, such as the right to life, liberty, and property, are inherent and inalienable, and must be protected by government, as is stated in our Declaration of Independence. The UDHR on the other hand, states exactly as follows: "These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations." [article 29, paragraph 3]. The view of human rights held by the United States is the foundation of liberty. The view of the United Nations is the foundation of totalitarianism.
So never mind the faulty and omissive nature of the academics offered within this "IB" program, it also promotes the redistribution of wealth between nations and within nations per the UN, that people have no right to bear arms, does not allow for limited government and reserved powers, does not recognize natural law, and does not guarantee that property cannot be taken by government without just compensation.

Is this what we want our children to be taught?

Is it any wonder there is so much opposition to ridding the country of the Federal Department of Education? A lot of these globalist programs have already for years been implemented through Federal mandates which follow UN guidelines, even without schools ever having adopted "IB".

Where will this all end?

Anonymous said...

I agree with you completely. After studying what this IB program is all about, I am shocked and angry. It is interesting that other school districts across the nation have had to fight this issue, even on a state level. For those of you who have not taken the time or the interest to look into this, you need to do so now. The International Baccalaureate program is anti-American, and their agenda is to change the very foundation of our country through our children.

I also agree with getting rid of the current administration. I can't for the life of me figure out how/why we ended up with Bates and Tracey in the first place. The blame has to be put on the last school board, aren't they the ones who had the final say on this? I know people in the Fond du Lac school district who cannot figure out why Green Lake would hire Tracey after the things that happened in their schools with him. Why on earth was this man hired in our Green Lake schools???

We need to turn things around and stop this plan of action. There is nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned education, and our kids surely don't need to be indoctrinated with one-world-order education and all that it encompasses. Parents, it is time to work together!

Anonymous said...

Oh my god! what have the IB conspiracy theorists been smoking?(the previous two blogs). Well, at least it gives us some great entertainment and material for our next party!

Thanks for that!

Anonymous said...

So, since you know stuff about what happened in Fond du Lac where Tracey worked, what happened?

Anonymous said...

I find it totally incomprehensible for some of the bloggers to criticize our newly elected officials before they even have attended one board meeting. The voters wanted a change and they got a change, and we should all sit back and let the new mayor and the new schoolboard go to work before we start to judge them. No wonder it is hard to find people to run for an elected office in this town, since you are criticized before you have a chance to even attend one boardmeeting.

Were you able to recall what happened in FdL?
