City Annexation Meeting

I believe the next city annexation meeting is Wednesday night at 7:00. Be there city people!

This meeting will be an absolute circus. To make matters worse, the city foolishly decided to hear public comments, which will be a huge waste of time because it’s already been done. The public spoke at the January 14th meeting. It went on and on, so why is it happening again? This coming meeting will feature at least an hour of hysteria because the same people will stand up and make the same nonsensical comments as before. I can see it now … Edi Johnston, Dick Martens, Lynn/Chuck Mirr and the usual cast of characters who oppose any form of change.

By the way, the 30-some GLCC residents who so strongly oppose the development are PART-TIME residents. They’re not employees of the GLCC, and they don’t even live there year-round, which makes it awfully difficult to continue the charade of demanding “development done right.” Everyone knows this really means “Not in my backyard.” As long as the development takes place on the GLCC grounds, nothing will ever be good enough for these people, so they pretend they want it “done right.”

The proposed development isn’t even within eyesight of these private homes, so please, give it a rest. Even if the lot sizes were increased, these people will still find an excuse to keep someone else out. Watch.

This is PRIVATE land we're talking about. GLCC and Lindenwood have the right to seek annexation and develop it if they choose. If they're somehow breaking the law, then by all means, prove it.

If there are going to be public comments at this meeting, then someone needs to stand up and put these homeowners in their place once and for all. I’m fed up with them using the "environment" and "lot sizes" as excuses to prevent (A) generating more money for ministry programs, (B) creating a larger tax base for the town/city and (C) giving others an opportunity to enjoy the Green Lake Conference Center.

Why don't you remember this is a democracy? Ken does not own the property he has just made a mess of it since he has been there. I say lets get rid of him and then there can be a spirit of cooperation. That is a word he has not had in his vocabulary. Let the law be followed as it should be now!

Why should it matter if the GLCC residents who oppose the development are part-time residents? They are still residents and they have valid concerns. Marv is very short sighted with his views. I am not a GLCC resident, but have a great deal of empathy for the current residents. Anyone who is opposed to development done right is obviously not concerned about what truly matters in this world. We lived on a lake in Wisconsin where development was done wrong, and it sickens me to this day. Some things are more important than money, and Jesus would certainly understand about not prostituting the land for the sake of the "ministry".

Did you people realize that Mike Wuest has already told the GLCC that they can have their development if they come back to our town. Is he concerned with his job, perhaps? So much for our wonderful leadership...

The moment of Truth will come when all the dust settles and the Department advises the City to reverse the Annexation.

Marv,

Why are you against people speaking out on this issue? "Hysteria" - I highly doubt it, just concerned people wanting to get to the bottom of this. Nothing wrong with that.
Whether or not people are part-time or full-residents is really a non-issue - perhaps you haven't heard their side of the story - I don't know, there is always two sides to every story and somewhere in between the two stories is the truth.
Yes, this is private land, I understand that, what people are upset about (& if you have been paying attention, going to meetings, reading the papers) is this: it (development) was not proposed in the right fashion - the Town asked them to come back w/a better plan, more information (nothing wrong with that request/suggestion) they don't like what they are told - so, in essence, they take the ball elsewhere. Their right. However, what the residents of the city do not care for is the matter in how this is all playing out. Questions have been asked, and not fully answered. This is a huge cost & people just want answers as to where the money is coming from, who is resposible if it fails. Do you realize that the City will not even see any tax monies for a few years? "Lot sizes & environment"? absouletly nothing wrong w/people wanting it done according the laws/guidelines that have been drafted. Environment - nothing wrong with wanting to protect what little "green space" is left on this planet."Generating money for ministry programs" - again, Ok - however, from what I have read - none of this money is even staying at the GLCC - it is going elsewhere - why not keep a good bulk of the money here & put it to good use at the GLCC? "creating larger tax base for town/city" - again - we will not see any tax money for quite sometime - properties are not exactly selling at this point. "Giving others opportunity to enjoy the GLCC" Who are you refering to - the people who will be living in an a gated community? It certainly would not be open to the public & to those who enjoy using it - biking riding, etc....as far as I know - people do enjoy the GLCC year round. Open your eyes. I know plenty of people who come up & stay at the GLCC - to enjoy the beautiful nature of what is offered to them. Nothing wrong with that.
The people who are questioning this development do not necessarily "oppose any form of change" they are asking questions because they want answers. The Developers, GLCC, the Mayor, the Town of Brooklyn has been working on this for quite sometime - why not give the same courtsey to the public? "Development do right" does not always mean "not in my backyard". Are you even aware that the homeowners who are against this have been "conviently cut out of the annexation" just because they are not going along with it? Not cool.

Excellent comments, thanks.

I do not understand why some bloggers think that being a part time resident does not entitle you to have an opinion about what can have an effect on their property. Regardless of wether you spend one month, six months or twelve months in your Green Lake Property, any change in the local use of a local property will have an effect on all property owners, and they (all property owners) should be allowed to voice their opinion for or against any change.

Because part-time residents do not have any concern for us others that live here 24/7. All they care about is their little piece of escape. They do not patronize the local businesses. They bring up everything they need from Chicago. (Tar-J, Sam's) and play their little I'm poor just like the little country bumpkins that live here. I have more respect for people who move here to live and work full time. And all you little locals who live here full time, do not fall for their pied piper antics.

how cynical can you get? what gives you the authority to speak for these people and tell us what their concerns are?

I was out of town last night and as such was not able to attend the annexation meeting. Can anyone provide a summary of the outcome of the meeting ? Certainly would be appreciated. I checked the Northwestern web site but didn't see anything regarding the meeting.

Thank you to any/all that reply to my request.

The writer of the above post should read the Ripon newspaper. They're the only ones that seems to know what's going on in Green Lake these days.

Gene-

Unfortunately I am still out of town on business and do not have access to the RCP. I don't believe they have a web site, but will check all the same.

Regards.

FYI
The Ripon Commonwealth site is http://www.riponpress.com/index.htm, but, they do not carry any information online.
