Green Lake Disc Golf @ Zobel Park

There is a group trying to install a disc golf and handicap accessible park at Zobel Park. For those of you unfamiliar with disc golf it is a game played with Frisbees instead of a golf ball. There are tournaments all over the country and we have several local players.

For those of you who might be interested in donating I've put a Pay Pal button on the right. For those of you who would rather send a check this is the address:

Oshkosh Community Foundation
Green Lake Zobel Park Recreational Fund
404 N. Main Street #205
Oshkosh, WI 54901

Make checks payable to Green Lake Zobel Park Rec Fund

All donations are tax deductible.

Thanks for your support!

What group is doing this project? I applaud them for this effort.

Yes, I'd like to know more, too. My kids love disc golf, and I think I would enjoy it also. I would just like to know more about the group who is organizing this before I donate any money to them. What is this project going to entail, how much needs to be raised? Would this be in the lower grassy area of the park, off of the lower parking lot? I think this would be great for our community. Zobel is a great park and it is truly underutilized.

To bad we can't use Highknocker Park for something. It has a $30,000 bathroom, but Tom Eddy said we needed more GREEN space so we have a useless park where there could have been homes build and taxes paid to the city, how sad this is!!!!

Maybe the park (Highknocker)just needs a little something added or more promotion. I think people either don't know about it or forget about it.

Highknocker needs something to draw. when the city originally developed that park they took so much real estate to accommodate parking for 25-50 cars in that area and room for emergency vehicles then there was no room for a legite baseball field or anything else. the forest with the walking paths is great but it still needs a large kingdom type play structure that could be built by volunteers. You then will have a draw for children and tourists and you can fill all the numberous parking spaces.

There really isn't much to attract people to Highknocker Park. A play structure is a good idea. Perhaps something like a basketball hoop would also attract people. Another feature to consider would be athletic "stations" where certain exercises are performed as I have seen in other parks. The woods are very nice, it is good to retain green space in the city for future generations (and our own).

The few times I have tried to use the park restrooms, they were locked, so I had to whiz in the woods. I realize it's necessary to keep the restrooms locked so that the crack addicts and meth-heads stay out, but it sure would be nice to be able to use the bathrooms while at the park.

I brought my 2 year old neice to Highknocker and she wanted to know where the slide was!

I figured it out! Let's sellHighknocker park to the school, for what the city paid for it plus the $30,000 bathroom, and a few improvements they added, the grant money should just about cover it. Green Lake does NOT need 5 parks in the city--

I would like to get this thread back on track. The subject is a disc golf course at Zobel park. A disc golf course will be beneficial to a number of local businesses. This group should be commended for there efforts and community spirit. So if you have the resources please help out ,I'm sure the group can use all the help you have to offer.

Have you ever seen so many people who just want to bitch?

the group raising money for the Zobel Park development is the G.L. park and rec committee. The disc golf is the first phase of the project which will start this spring. The rest of the park development will continue as money is raised. If there are any questions or if you are interested in volunteering when the project starts please email the address listed on the front page of the Inquisitor

Thank you for this information.

It is unbelievable that there are people out there that take something positive going on in the community and then turn it into something negative by bitching about highnocker park which has nothing to do with Zobel Park. It is fine if you are unhappy about Highnocker park but please dont bitch about it here. If you want to make something happen get off your ass and make it happen

Zobel Park is one of the jewels of Green Lake County. It would be great to see more people use it all year long. It is a great place to walk and enjoy nature. Maybe some day we can have a fenced in dog park, any interest?

Anonymous said...

Zobel would be the perfect place for a fenced in dog park! I love this idea!

Again, a disc golf course is what the thread is about. If you have other comments or ideas unrelated to the disc golf course, find some where else to brain storm.
Any one who has commented on anything other than the disc course must suffer from A.D.D. or is a idiot. Lets keep this thread on track so the community does not have to wade through the rest of this nonsense to get the information on the DISC GOLF COURSE at Zobel park.

Wow, how very rigid of you. You are a very controlling person, I feel sorry for your spouse.

The idiot remark is uncalled for.

The pertinent information about the disc golf course has already been posted above.

I will assume your one of the poster suffering from the above mentioned afflictions.

I do suffer from ADD but I am able to stay focused enough to realize that this is about Zobel Park! I am wondering if you need volunteers when this is going to go down. I would love to help, I promise that I will take my medication that day!

The disk golf plans are a wonderful addition to the park, anything that increases the use of the park is soomething to pursue. Is it possible that while planning this the group could incorporate the dog park idea in the plans? It seems that the perfect place would be the Northeast corner of the upper parking lot. All that is needed is a fence around part of the area and leave part with long grass and part with short grass. It is not an extremely costly addition to the plans.

Could we ask someone in town, maybe North Bay, to sell the discs or will we have to drive to Fond Du Lac to buy them? If so, might as well use their disc golf course. I'm guessing Kmart in Ripon hasn't a clue about golf discs.

Anonymous said...

there is somebody local that will be selling discs

Anonymous said...

As far as I know, there is no dogs allowed in city or county parks,Ripon has one .

Mikes bike shop in berlin has a display.I think with the course being build, selling them will profitable.

If the plan to build the disc golf course at Zobel falls through, will we get our money back if we donated?

Anonymous said...

who ever had the question about the donation and if this falls through will you get a refund please email me. nathanomirr@hotmail.com

Potential for a new course is awesome! The "course" in Waupun is terrible and Fondy & Beaver Dam get a bit old. Any idea as to what type of course it will be? Longer, shorter, 9 or 18 holes? A challenging, championship calliber course would be awesome to have in the area!

Anonymous said...

the course will be a championship course with 18 holes there will be 3 pin locations for each hole and 2 tee pads for most holes.

Anonymous said...

That is excellent! Any idea as to when it will be in the ground or any need for volunteer help?

if you are interested in helping out that would be great please email me I will give you the details Thanks Nate
