Plowing

Who is having a plowing issue out there. Let the city know where you are having a problem(if you are). I've heard some complaints from people on side streets who feel they are being ignored while the downtown gets all the plowing action.

I am glad you asked...We live in the city and are very frustrated by the plowing tactics that have been used this winter. It puzzles us that after the snow has stopped and the plows have been through, they will go through again and pile a huge amount of snow at the end our our driveway, also blocking our mailbox. We are very diligent with our shoveling and snow-blowing, but it is dis-heartening to go outside after a great deal of work removing snow to find that the city plows have once again deposited a huge amount of heavy snow across the end our our drive-way. Also, the plows keep widening the "street" to a width much wider than the street actually is, so that they have torn up turf on every lawn on our street. I realize is has been a heavy winter for snow, but scraping our lawn down to bare dirt does not seem fair to us. Neither does piling snow across the end of our drive-way after we have shoveled and literally burying our mailbox (after they hit it with the plows, it no longer shuts properly). In spite of all their efforts, the street is still snow-covered and slippery. What I want to know is if the city is going to pay for us to re-sod our lawn and also pay for a new mailbox. Anyone else out there facing similar problems?

Granny, granny granny... What? Do you think you’re the only one with a driveway connected to a street? Guess what, we all have them, hundreds in town. Do you really expect the plow operator to lift the plow at every driveway? Give them a break... Your probably the same type of person who drives right up behind the plow truck, passes them and cuts them off just because of your agenda... I say give the drives a break, they are damned if they do and damned of they don't.

I agree...everytime the plow goes by, I have to hall my ass out there and shovel again too. You're not the only one...if you don't like WI...move!

Excuse me, I never said that I didn't like living Wisconsin. The Chief asked if anyone was having plowing issues, and I contributed by telling what my problems have been with the plows this winter. The fact is that we wait till the snow stops, wait till the plows have been through, and then we go out to shovel. Then the plows come through AGAIN, not in order to actually get the snow off the street but to widen it. Our street cannot get any wider, there is no room to make it wider. Yet they pile a huge amount of snow at the end of our driveway and in front of our mailbox. We received a notice in our mail today that we need to clear our mailbox, a little postcard with a diagram of how the space around the mailbox should be cleared. The point is, WE DID clear the space and the plows completely un-did our hard work. We are not spring chickens, and it is hard on us physically. Maybe the city wants to pay our chiropractor bills or perhaps the plow drivers could come over to our house and give us deep tissue massages. In conclusion, the plow drives could be more considerate of their actions. And just for the record, I don't drive right behind the plow trucks, or try to pass them. So show some respect, Sonny.

I think that for the size of Green Lake they have done an excellent job this year, but I recall that earlier in the season there was lots of plowing done for minor snow falls even when snow was melting the trucks were driving around looking for something to do. Now when there is plenty to do no one is plowing or there is not enough salt or money in the budget. Also when a snow storm tends to occur on a weekend why is there no plowing until Monday morning. I wonder if snow removal should be contracted out. Contractors are out all weekend plowing driveways but the streets are snow covered till Monday. The city would not have to worry about costly overtime. Also what about my ideas- Every home owner seems to have big powerful snow blowers that usually never get to use until this season. What if everyone with a good snow blower removes the snow from their portion of road or street in front of their home. Next idea- When the city plows a smaller pick-up with a plow follows and removes the snow that blocks each homeowners driveway. I would be glad to pay a few more dollars in taxes to receive this service.
