I'm falling down on the job here. Thanks for reminding me to post this. I meant to do it a while ago. I'm getting a little worn down on the school and property stuff.
Anyway, there are elections coming up for the school board. I am not sure what else there is. There were interviews in the Green Lake and Ripon papers with the candidates.

Not to be a doof, Chief, but it's actually a February 17 primary and an April 7 election. But you were close.
It will be interesting to see how Celest King and Harley Reabe do in the primary since they voted opposite ways on whether to extend Ken Bates' contract a couple weeks ago.
A primary IS an election you doof.
Please correct the primary date in the heading of the post from April 17 to February 17.
What a slueth! You just know figured out that the Chiefster is Rickster? aka Rick Monday, Rick Friday, Rick James, Ricky Ticky Tavvy?
Oh My God!
Einhorn is Finkle
Finkle is Einhorn
Einhorn is a Man
I vote for Harley Reabe and Meade Grim.
Sorry Julie and Emmet, but you two never even attend School Board meetings. Sorry Celest, but you're too quiet at the meetings and you side with the administration's dog and pony show instead of listening to what the residents want.
Harley asks tough questions in public. Bates may not like that, but the rest of us do. Harley also has a brain when it comes to the school demanding real estate. I also like Meade because he will bring another common sense voice to the Board.
Chief Highknocker will turn 189 years tomorrow Friday 13th. Happy Birthday Chief!
There should be a street dance led by the Chief in full ceremonial costume and head-dress at mid-night starting from the Rid and crossing through the icy river and ending at the grave site.
this could have been done as part of Winterfest if they hadn't CANCELLED it!!!
Did anyone attend the school board forum? What did you think about the candidates?
Yes I did attend the school board forum and was extremely disappointed at the very poor turnout. Come on here,we have some huge problems at our school and where are all the parents who are always complainting about how things are being handled! Parents you need to take the time to show up and voice your concerns on behalf of your precious children!! Our children only get to do this once and our G.L. School is rapidly declining, not only in enrollment but class choices for our high school students. We are surrounded by Berlin and Ripon-two really good schools-how can we compete! Our high school students need to be ready to face our rapidly changing world with all its economic problems. We have no School to Work program at G.L.(even Princeton has this and they do a very good job at it!!) And our Tech Ed classes are next to nil! Ken is constantly talking about a Tech Ed acadamy in construction. How is our economy for that Ken? I would say real "ify" at this point in time! Possibly something in the mechanics field would be smarter and are always in need but this may not be "classy" enough for G.L.!! Ripon and Berlin schools have a budget of around $18000-$19000 for their programs-you tell me how we can compete with them!! No possible way and they are only a few miles from us!! Oh I suppose G.L. will try again to apply for grants but look at our shop area-not the best at all!!
So parents, please start taking the time from your busy schedule to attend regular school board meeting! You need to be a voice for your children and keep fighting for an excellant education for them! Believe me they are counting on you!!
My sincere recommendation would be to continue to support Harly Reabe(he does a great job!) and also Emmet Sandberg who I also get a very good feeling about. He will ask some tough questions and make the school be accountable for their actions. Please remember to get out a support these two gentlemen this coming Tuesday Feb.17!
Thank you for that heartfelt answer. I was not able to attend the meeting on Thursday evening, but had already decided to support Harley Reabe and Emmet Sandberg. In fact, I would like to know where we can get yard signs to show our support for these candidates.
I am in agreement about the Tech Ed classes and was extremely upset when our tech-ed programs were slashed from the curriculum. With sky-rocketing college tuitions and poor business economy, a solid technical education is the right choice for so many of our youth. Sadly, Green Lake High School has never supported the technical trades and Ms. Jan Hauer has done all she can to steer our students to a traditional college and away from Technical Schools. I believe she is more concerned about her matriculation rate than the actual needs and wants of the students.
The "green" education theme at GL is okay, we all need to love the earth and treat it with respect. But guess what, "green" jobs are for the most part found it the technical trades. Hard to find a "green" stock broker or attorney. The "green" jobs are technical jobs and if this is the way that our country is heading, the administration needs to conform and adapt.
Over all, the school should be concentrating on a solid core education of reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Once our students reach high school they can begin to decide what direction to go from there. I find it very ironic that I received a better education decades ago than our kids are receiving here in Green Lake, before we had computers and $3000 electronic chalkboards.
Hey bloggers of Feb. 14th and 15th thanks much for your voting advice. However I think people can make up their own minds on who they believe is best for the school board positions. Apparently you must think we're all a bunch of idiots. Excuse me I have to go now to change my diaper and wipe the drool from the corner of my mouth.
