Green Lake Fireworks/Marching Band

I thought the fireworks were pretty great this year. Thanks to all of you who contributed money to support them.

I went to see the UW Marching Band this week. I think they should call it the Brass band because it isn't the whole marching band these guys do a great job. As the rain came down the lake they continued to play and then played right through the rain. I really enjoyed them.

GOOD suggestion calling it the "UW Brass Band" as we have heard several people over the years that, like we the first year we were here, thought it was the entire UW Band and would be playing the entire park concert. Being "locals" we would have been there anyway, but we were near a large group of UW band fans that had chartered a bus to come from Janesville thinking it was a concert by the "UW Band" as advertised. It still is very worthwhile and special to have them - especially with the picnic - a VERY wonderful GL night. THANKS To all involved - especially the Carews who through their generosity and love of Green Lake - and the UW Band - started this many years ago!

The Fireworks were beautiful!!! The parade well done, too. The concert was great with the food and music until the storm came, but the band and crowd managed well inspite of the rain. WOW it really came on fast. We enjoyed all these activities. Many thanks to all who worked on organizing them.

Following this week's news that Swiss authorities won't extradite Roman Polanski to the United States to face sentencing in Los Angeles for his 1977 drugging, rape and sodomy of a 13 year old girl, I am once again reminded of the disturbing content of the Swiss "International Baccalaureate" program that has been implemented in our own Green Lake school system. The program was implemented here in Green Lake because folks weren't paying attention, and frankly, did not understand what IB truly is IS. The program was implemented here in Green Lake because it is the subject of Ken Bates doctorate. Though Bates claims that grants have paid for the travel and training required to indoctrinate our students with new-age philosophies, if truth we taxpayers will be paying for this systematic brainwashing with our tax dollars.

The IB and Earth Charter have no place in our school system. The Earth Charter is a document formulated in France and headed by former Soviet General Secretary and avowed communist Mikhail Gorbachev. The body of the document contains 15 tenets of the Doctrine. The Earth Charter was previously linked to the IBO website, all references to the Charter were dropped from the website following the Upper St. Clair, Pa. ACLU lawsuit.

The CORE PHILOSOPHY of IBO - to "revisit" and REVISE the VALUES you've taught your children at home. Anyone who can't see the red flags or alarm bells contained within IBO's own document as a direct assault on our Constitutional and Judeo-Christian values must be deaf, dumb and blind. Americans do not need the misguided Swiss to tell them how to educate our youth!

We need to get IB and Earth Charter OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS ! Soon, Ken Bates and the school will once again be trying to take more of your hard earned money in yet another referendum. Until IB and Earth Charter are removed from our school and our children are being offered a quality AMERICAN education, I will never consider voting to hand over more of my money to "educate" our children. Enough is enough.

Facts can be disarming!

Only if they are truly facts. Like the fact that IB is used world wide and well received. The fact that one school board driven by a right winger drops it is not any proof of *communist conspiracy*.

A lot of school boards across the nation are dropping IB for various reasons. You don't have to be a "right winger" to see that this is an indoctrination program to control the youth. If you want quality education, the AP is a much better program, more college oriented, more cost efficient, and sticks to educating, not brainwashing.

That's a claim with no proof. How many? What reasons?

After reading about "visions" for the courthouse in this weeks newspaper, I am dismayed that people just don't understand the reality and the brevity of our current economic condition. The notion of applying for and receiving grant money to fund these "visions" is ludicrous. Why would you rob your own children and grandchildren to see such visions fulfilled? Grant money is money that our government DOES NOT HAVE. We owe so much money to China already, some day we will be their slaves. Nice legacy to leave for future generations. Pull your heads out of your butts. Or let me put it to you this way, Letty and Nolan. If you believe so strongly in your "vision" then put your money where your mouth is. Buy the courthouse yourselves and put millions of dollars into fixing it. Or build your Academy on your own land. NO GRANT MONEY should be considered for the future of the courthouse, no matter what happens to it. The mindless spending has to stop.

Amen! Finally, somebody said it. An "environmental awareness center" is about as silly an idea for the courthouse as an Indian casino. This community needs something useful that will benefit tourism and the greater area, not cater to a small group of hippie, save-the-earth types who think they can somehow mooch “grants” from the government. Go back to Madison already.

I couldn't agree more. This idea of finding something to stick in the old courthouse is going too far.

If you want to celebrate the natural beauty of Green Lake County and learn all about lakes, forests and soil, THEN GO OUTSIDE ! You don't need an old courthouse OR grant money to study nature. Open your eyes.

Did anyone else attend the "Downtown Green Lake Renewal" forum last night? An absolute laugh riot. It was basically dozens of random, disjointed, pie-in-the-sky ideas, facilitated by some private organization that doesn’t even have decision-making power regarding the courthouse in the first place.

Exactly who asked the Renewal Project to get involved? This isn’t their project, nor is it the city’s, technically. The land is owned by the COUNTY, until the county decides to develop it or give it away. This process will be an absolute hoot.

I wish I had been there to see it for myself. You really hit the nail on the head. People can go round in circles with their pie-in-the-sky ideas for years to come. And that is my prediction of exactly what will happen. There will be a ten year banter about what "we" should do with the courthouse, and then it will finally be torn down. Let's expedite matters and tear it down now. Let's face it, there is nothing that could go into that building that would justify spending millions of dollars on repairs and renovations. Hello county officials, are you listening?

Why don't all you ******** tear the whole city down. Let us start with the Oprah House. You can all live in your sheds with Slingblade. Have all the wonderful nature and save alot of money. The county officials think that all you Green Lake people are dumb ass fools and so do all the part-timers. They want you to believe that Green Lake is going down the toilet. Green Lake is here and always will be here doing it's thing and you all will be living in Dartford Cemetery.
