The Green Lake County Fair

The County Fair starts tomorrow. It always means the end of summer to me. It is going to be HOT tomorrow. Go eat home made pie and ride the tilt a whirl.

The Green Lake County Fair- what it means to me, what I wait for all year. Things I love and hate. Yes, a reasonably priced ice cream cone. The chance that there may be elephant ears for sale this year, but no, maybe next year. Yes the demo derby. Maybe this year there will be less hillbillies sitting behind me speaking their curse languages. My son is an adult now, I don't have to cover his ears. The very affordable bingo games, but I never win. All the things, animals, rip off games, and people to see and then I wonder why I bothered. I'm not trying to be negative, it's just the way it is.

Count your blessings! So many strange things are happening (like zebra mussels in GL). It is wonderful to have a Fair to enjoy, plus all the other charming things around the area that need to be preserved.

What did everyone enjoy most about the fair?

I enjoyed the sweltering heat, the flies and the smell of fresh manure. But seriously folks, those things don't bother me since I grew up in Wisconsin farm country. The fair is a truly wonderful reminder of the simpler pleasures of life, what is real, good, and worthwhile. The youth from this area who are involved in continuing the tradition of farming in Wisconsin should be ultra-proud of themselves and their families. They are our future.
