Hilary vs. McCain

I think since most of the people who follow along here have an interest in politics I am wondering who thinks this will be the contest to watch for the fall. Personally, I am tired of Clintons and Bushs. We aren't some Eastern European country with legacy presidents. I hope someone new gets in but I think this is going to be the contest for president.

FYI, there was a huge fire in downtown Green Lake this morning. One of the businesses in the downtown burned down. They think it was arson.

I live in the city and didn't see smoke or hear sirens. Is the above blog a statement of truth or not?

The blog about the fire is ridiculous. Why would someone put that on here?

I currently am supporting Hillary.
I do think Obama has a lot to offer. But washington is complicated and Hillary has been there.......she has worked so hard when Bill was president to get a national health care bill passed and she knows the obstacles and how to handle the right wing now...after all that experience she is ready to take on the drug companys and special interests and this is what she will do as president...not to mention helping the environment, as adressing global warming, the looming economic crisis in this country, the war in Iraq and Afganistan and ALL of the outstanding issues W has not addressed in nearly 8 Long Years.

Does it matter...They will promise all of us great programs, that we cannot afford, to pander to certain voting blocs to ensure their election. Just like the rebate program - A bandaid today which will cost us billions more down the road

It is time for a great depression. The number of haves to have nots has greatly increased. It is time for the government to stir up the economy. The middle class is no more. What is a hand out of a few hundred dollars going to do for me. I can not afford my insurance, home, taxes, utilities, let alone food, car, kid's college, We need good paying jobs. When I was a kid all jobs could lead to home ownership, and a life.

First of all. NO FIRE. Where does this stuff come from? Sometimes I feel like I live in a game of telephone. (For those of you who remember this game.)

Now that Edwards & Guilani have dropped out I am positive it will be Hilary & McCain. Stay tuned I guess.

In answer to Susan. God help us if either Hillary or Obama get in. Hillary is a socialist and will tax us to death. As far as global warming, did you hear that China is suffering their coldest winter in 50 years? It is not exactly warm around here either. The drug companies are not making windfall profits and should not be regulated by a left wing government. The left wing are the worst offenders as far as special interest groups are concerned. The worst thing that could happen to the US is socialized medicine. Look what it has done in Canada, you have to wait months to get to see a doctor or schedule a surgery. GET A LIFE, SUSAN!!!!!

It's ok to disagree with someone and differ in opinions, but it's rude to "yell" at a person and insult them. I don't know why some people on this blog feel that they can blast others the way they do. Wouldn't the world be a better place if we all tried to be a little kinder?

Susan said...

Thanks anonymous for going to bat on my behalf and others that get yelled at.The "world would surely
be a better place" as you say.

It is myth you have to wait for appointments or surgery for months in the Canadian health care system. Have you actually been there or just watched Fox news for your point of view? Trying to demonize the the idea of socialized medicine is ridiculous. If that is your point of view then we should just privative everything, including the fire dept. post office, library etc. and let those who can pay get service and forget about those who can't. Let someone lose their home because they had a heart attack. Nice.

Government-run health care is NOT the answer to our health care problems! Few people realize that Congress forced Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) on us. The Food and Drug Administration's (government-run) bias toward large pharmaceutical companies enlarges their power, limits treatment options, and drives consumers to seek Canadian medicines. The federal government will not suddenly become efficient managers if universal health care is instituted. Government health care only means long waiting periods, lack of choice, poor quality, and frustration. Many Canadians, fed up with socialized medicine, come to the U.S. in order to obtain care.

Health care should NOT be left up to HMOs, big drug companies, and government bureaucrats.

Things need to change here in the USA, such as:

* Making all medical expenses tax deductible.
* Eliminating federal regulations that discourage small businesses from providing coverage.
* Giving doctors the freedom to collectively negotiate with insurance companies and drive down the cost of medical care.
* Making every American eligible for a Health Savings Account (HSA), and removing the requirement that individuals must obtain a high-deductible insurance policy before opening an HSA.
* Reform licensure requirements so that pharmacists and nurses can perform some basic functions to increase access to care and lower costs.

My friend in the UK has to buy auxiliary health insurance policies in order to get any kind of decent health care, otherwise it is third-rate treatment. If we still have to buy insurance, then we are not only back to square one but also lost in the nightmare of government control.

Needless to say, I will not be voting for Hillary.

Hillary will push her reformed 1994failed socialized medicine upon you, no thanks. Here's a quote from her website: "Hillary's American Health Choices Plan covers all Americans and improves health care by lowering costs and improving quality. It speaks to American values, American families, and American jobs". What's that mean?

Obama at least has the ability to reach compromise, listen to others and search for a better answer, if there is one. I like that, I read his book. Here's a quote from his website: "It's time to bring together businesses, the medical community, and members of both parties around a comprehensive solution to this crisis, and it's time to let the drug and insurance industries know that while they'll get a seat at the table, they don't get to buy every chair."
I like that!

McCain, probably a lot of no change from what we have now. HSA's aren't bad, once you get use to them and if you can afford to set the money aside. Sure, its tax free, but it still is painful.
Here's a quote from his website: "John McCain believes that insurance reforms should increase the variety and affordability of insurance coverage available to American families by fostering competition and innovation".

Now what the heck does all that mean? Of course, none of them say how they'll pay for any of it. Why not give the richest Americans another tax break? That trickle down theory ought to kick in anytime now... don't ya think?? LOL

One of the previous posters was right, what we need are jobs! We need to find out what once made this country great and what will do it again. Shipping our jobs overseas isn't the answer. Being told George W Bush knows were hurting isn't a lot of relief either.

My Dad only finished high school. Mom only worked at home. We had a home in the suburbs, a new car every four years, food on the table and we always took a long summer vacation to some state park camping and I loved it. Things were tight I'm sure, but our folks never let on. When they retired they bought a place in Florida. I never saw it, but I hear it wasn't much, but it was what they wanted.

They say incomes have risen, those of us who are lucky to have jobs, but expenses have soared.

Now don't give me that crap about cutting back, I know all about it. I only own one 19" TV and still use the antenna. I only have dial up intrenet and no cell phone. My cars been paid off for six years now. I know all about cutting back! I even shop at Goodwill. I have no credit card debt and only made a little ove $15,000 last year. $8.50 per hour just isn't what it was once. It used to seem like all the money in the world, it sure isn't now. I don't smoke and only have an occaissional beer. Maybe 2-3 per month.

I know this for sure, I'll never retire or move to Florida. I've never even been to Disneyworld. I'm just surviving. I hope the next life is better. I'm not complaining, I'm healthy, but its not what I hoped it would be. I should a stayed in the Navy.

Enough Rambling.

Jobs is right. We're not competitive in manufacturing anymore so the focus should be on the service sector. At least that's what they'd have us believe. But you can only have a certain ratio of service jobs to people that need "servicing", and we already have more service people than people needing service. So what now?
Well, unfortunatley, to manufacture something that someone can afford to buy we need to reduce the costs involved in the manufacturing process. Then we end up with goods that can be sold in our country and exported overseas, which these days, is a prerequisite for a successful manufacturing base that capitalizes on the global economy. So, how do we make stuff cheaper?
Materials - Many of our raw materials are sourced overseas these days, steel and other metals being a good example. Labor - well it seems everyone in the manufacturing world expects at least $10/hr these days, we don't have the competitive edge on labor rates that we had in the 60's. Energy - everything requires energy to produce and transport to its point of sale. Energy costs have tripled over the last 10 years and there's no sign that we'll resolve that issue anytime soon.
So I'm sorry to say that the job situation in this country has never looked worse than it does right now. The final nail is the crash of the housing market, we're now seeing a flood of construction workers hit the job market.
So what are the candidates for the White House doing to promote job creation in our Country, versus creating an economic structure that forces more jobs overseas?
Well they're all cognizant of the issues and they're all going to do something about it, they just haven't been able to tell us what, exactly.
So we should get used to it, or move to China.

Hey "8 more years for Bush" You're not really serious are you? 8 years of Bush is what has helped to land us in this mess. If you’re all for Bush, that’s your right to support him, but what does history tell us now? Providing huge tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans, ignoring the middle class, starting a war in Iraq we didn't need (oh, I know we're safer now, uh huh), refusing to listen to others who are a heck of a lot smarter than he is, being hard headed and thinking his way is the only way, that's what has helped to get us where we are today.

You Reds can blame the Blues, but you have run up deficit spending and sold this country to China in a hand basket.

I don't know what's coming our way, but it isn't pretty, it's gonna hurt a lot more than it does now before it's over and I don't think any candidate can do a darn thing about it.

Like the guy said who "should of stayed in the Navy" we need to find out what this country can do great again and do it! Developing products and resources that drive our world away from fossil fuels might be it. We built the products that built our world once; maybe we can do it again.

Now, you doom and gloom nay Sayers and Conservatives, go ahead and tell me I'm a fool, but if we keep on going the way we're going, it is certainly no answer either. It only drives the divide between the haves and have nots that much farther. That is what has led us to the call for a “Time for Change”.
