Its Been a Little Dull Around Town

Summer has definitely started. More and more Illinois license plates are here which is a good thing.

I hear there was a break-in at the County Park refreshment stand over memorial day weekend. What did they take? Stale hot dogs?

The developer who bought the Grocery Bag went before the city council Tuesday night looking for variances. The council has decided against him for the moment. He wants too many exceptions at this point. They should just tear that building down. It wasn't the greatest building to begin with and it is becoming an eyesore. I keep hearing about increasing the tax base but I don't see that as giving any relief to tax payers, just more money for the city. They aren't going to lower the current taxes, that's for sure. Do we need a medical clinic?

I'd like to thank all the people who came to the Art Gallery opening on Saturday afternoon/evening.

We had a better than expected attendance with a good mix of locals and 'out of towners'

Thanks to Dusty also for representing the Chamber.

I agree with the Chief that the Grocery Bag should just be torn down. It might even be less expensive to build a new building rather than try to add on to an old one. I have no idea if we need a new medical building here in GL, or more condos for that matter. It is a primo spot for something!

I'm bored ! I say tear down all of the old and up with new. How about the old gas station ? how long do we have to look at that?

I agree, tear it down. Adding on to the building will not improve the look. The old gas station needs to go. Who owns it??

Does Condon still own the old Mobil gas station? I thought they once wanted to re-open the station but they would have a Subway in it and the city couldn't handle that. So, we sit with an empty eyesore.

I agree with the old GB building comments... tear it down, but do we need a Med Clinic and Condos? The flip side, I don't see anyone rushing to build something else.

Maybe Green Lake County should buy the old Grocery Bag and turn it into a jail and house all the county prisoners there. Then the current jail could be made into offices and we would not have to build a new building. (Kill two birds with one stone!) Then us law-abiding citizens could walk past the Jail Bag and look in the windows at the ne'er-do-wells like monkeys at the zoo.

That's probably the best idea I've heard!!!

Hey-
Did anyone notice that the parent of the kid who won the Caestecker Award put her house up for sale two days after graduation? They will be gone from our community and never look back. The kid even told his class mates that the only reason he came back(after almost 2 years) is to get
the Caestecker and all the money he could. He was not involved in the school or community most of his high school years and he comes back
and takes everything from all the other kids that have worked so hard.SO...he kissed ass to the " Great Almighty Jan Hauer" and he got what he wanted. You can bet that Hauer did not help all the other kids like the way she did him!!!

a bunch of sour grapes....your kid was probably too dumb anyway

Ahhhh... You must not of had any children go to Green Lake School in the past whatever years that Ms. Hauer has been a "guidance" counselor.
What work it must be to have 30 copies of scholarship papers on hand when it is time to apply. Gosh,it must take all of half an hour with a laser printer!!
AND there are no dumb kids up at that school!! They have gotten a good education (though it may be tough next year after all the crap going on) They have all tried their best to do well. And that is the best that we can ask.

yup, I don't have any kids going to GL. I home-school mine at the trailer park, so no scholarship for my brat.
He's a good kid though, learning to count and all that school stuff.

As a taxpayer and parent, I simply cannot understand why GL school district has kept Jan Hauer on the payroll all these years. I have heard she makes a rather handsome salary, too. I would like to get paid that much money to sit in my office and gossip, steer kids into classes and careers that they have no interest in, and mysteriously disappear for hours and hours at a time on a frequent basis. I could do her job and do it better, and have a much better rapport with the students and staff. Time to clean house at GLHS!

I'd vote for you in a heartbeat, you seem so rational. Just the person to steer my kids education.

Bless you.

I had heard from someone that GLHS has three individuals in an administrative position all making a considerable wage. Can someone elaborate? I don't have children yet but am interested in why GLHS needs so many higher-ups. They didn't have that many when I attended there.
