The Bike Race

OK. First off let me say I am all for the bike race. I think it is good for the town. Brings in people, revenue, etc.

Now lets talk about the town. This race was handed off to Green Lake from Fond du Lac three weeks ago. Not a lot of time to plan. Then the town essentially handed it off to the chamber. It was so badly planned I couldn't believe it. People could not get into their own homes. Parking was blocked off where it didn't need to be. The mayor was a complete .... I feel badly for Dusty and the Chamber people because I know they took a lot of flak for the planning but it was BADLY planned and it was really the citys fault not the Chamber. If it comes back next year I hope they have learned a little from their mistakes.

I agree completely. A city can not close roads for hours. People have the right to come and go from their own home. It's funny, I live in GL and didn't know anything about the bike race it someone mentioned Mill St. being closed.

I live on one of the streets that was closed, and I did receive a letter a few weeks ago from the city about the road closings with an enclosed map of the route. I think they at least notified those who lived on the route. However, the 23/A entrance out by Howie's was completely blocked off for a while and many people had to drive on lawns/curbs to get around, since that was one entrance that was supposed to be open.

The people living within the race area were able to get to and from their homes, the letter sent out indicated they needed to park their vehicles outside the race area and walk, which many did wout complants. There were a few set times when vehicle traffic was open for those living in the race area. Anonymous posting #1, please show us your source when stating "A city can not close roads for hours". because your wrong...there was a mix up in the road blocking on North St. @ Hwy 23, but was fixed ASAP once it was discovered.

People were allowed to go to the RIB and Chief Highknocker, until you take the time to volunteer for any of these events that HELP BRING PEOPLE INTO OUR CITY, dont knock those who take the time...it's easy to bitch from the sidelines...but maybe thats a better place for you.

Hey last anonymous,

What if you were disabled (wheelchair, cain, ect.) what were the accomodations??

No "source" is needed. People should not be cut off from their homes for hours because of all the "business" this is was supposed to brimg in. And people were not allowed to go to the rib until people yelled. And whoever you are you need to go take a basic English class because you can't spell sound foolish.

Chief - I know it's not part of this thread, but Welcome Back!

Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the Town of Brooklyn Plan Commission meeting on Thursday August 2 at 7:00 pm in the Courthouse. The revised plat for the Estates of Lawsonia is up for consideration - should be interesting to hear what everyone has to say.

I agree that it is a good event for the city to host. Why did more of us not know about it?
Anonymous who lives on one of the closed streets said they received a letter a few weeks prior. I did not find out until I went into town and could not get anywhere. My only suggestion is to at least leave the road open to the chamber, that way there is a turn around and somewhere for inquiries.
