What stores we have? – shame on you Chief, you should know better. The last time I looked all our retail locations were occupied…..how many towns can boast that?

We have some wonderful stores, four of which are new within the last season.

For those that don’t already know it –

Sadie Hawk Antiques – a large selection of the area’s finest antiques – you could spend an hour at Joanne and Hawks place and only see half of what they have!!

Mill St Junction – incredible selection of Green Lake gifts, t-shirts, caps, sweaters etc.
Cards, candles, fancy foods, hot-sauces….you name it and Holy has it.

The Tack Shop – is another great little store to pickup Green Lake souvenirs and other gift items – located in the lobby at the Heidel House.

The Mercantile Store – great little store for picking up your DIY essentials, but don’t forget about their fine wood carvings, stained glass work and other arts/crafts related products, many with a GL theme.

The Knowledge Emporium – education supplies but also another great resource for gifts for children of all ages. Instead of buying them a Playstation game why not encourage their artistic and creative side?....You’ll find this business set back from Mill st, opposite the Mercantile Store

Mousables – just opposite the bank – lovely selection of crafts, herbs, spices and fancy gift items.

Two Chez Bistro – stop for lunch and view their art collection. All items are for sale and most are creations of a very talented young artist (Andrew) who doubles as the Chef!

Little Corporal – has a small collection of art on display, all items are for sale to the public.

Green Lake Arts Gallery – supporting local artists, you can find prints from $30 all the way up to carvings for much more! – support your local artists. On Mill st opposite the Courthouse

Lazy Dog Antiques – new in the past few weeks, a beautiful little antique store whose owner is a real character. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike.

Native American Store – rich blend of eclectic gifts, ornaments and artifacts with a Native American or Southwestern theme. Chief, you should enjoy it in there, maybe pickup some different colored feathers.

Susan’s Gallery – nice selection of jewelry, art and gifts. Items starting at just a couple bucks up to $$$’s.....geared for locals too... Another store supporting local artists and trying to promote art in Green Lake.

Ice Cream Parlor – great to see Wally and Michelle back again serving ice cream goodies down by the Lake

North Bay Sports – get all your sports fishing tackle and bait at one convenient location.

Marina and Shoreline – yes, there’s a retail store in the back of the marina, sailing gear and lots of watersports related items. Stop and have a beer at the Marina and admire our beautiful lake!! – it’s open again this year so support them. A Bud light is the same price as at Adams Rib, get out of the smoke and into the fresh air!!

Then we have the gas station - yes, it is also a "store" Chief. Ther's lots of stuff in there, I stop in for my coffee most mornings, plus if you need basic food essentials they probably have it there.

Keipe Hotel - is a paintstore! yes, a retail store selling paint, wallpaper and decorating supplies. Instead of scuttling your butt to Ace in Ripon, why not use our local paintstore!

Green Lake Chamber office - has GL apparel that people can buy and give away as a gift our wear proudly around town.
Crossroads - yes, another new retail business in Green Lake!! - support them, it's a great shopping experience up there and they employ Green Lakers!!

Hopefully we’ll see a retail business in Conti’s old building soon, it just became available as of June 1st.

This place has some lovely stores and lovely people trying to make a business in Green Lake. Instead if all this innuendo and casting of aspersions, why don’t you take a walk around GL and enjoy all these wonderful retail businesses, maybe even spend a couple dollars to show your support for the area. If you don't like what you see, don't spoil it for others!!

STOP PUTTING THIS TOWN DOWN!!

Please don't forget Wallenfang's!!
They have GREAT stuff. Honey with
the real comb inside, teas, old-fashioned candy and I think the best T-shirts and sweatshirts around!! Not to mention the cheese, sausage etc. etc etc.!!

Anonymous said...

yes! Wallenfang's....I'm sorry!!

Five store's at one location....the list is growing, I hope I didn't miss anyone else.

Thanks

I also hear that there's an antique store opening just on the corner of Lawson and Mill.....great news!!

I should've mentioned that the Lazy Dog Antique store and the Native American store are where the old Health cache used to be, next to Malcolm Bay Realty and the art gallery...

Anonymous said...

.....and for the many golfers (visitors and locals alike) we have retail stores at Tuscumbia and Lawsonia....

Anonymous said...

Lazy Dog! The one that was downtown Ripon for awhile?

Anonymous said...

...Yes!, they had the store in Ripon..

....I spoke with the owner and she's thrilled to be here in Green Lake...she know's the area well enough to know how quiet it gets in the off-season but is still excited about the new business.

Congrats to her and welcome to GL!

oops...it might be called "Sleepy Dog", we'll have to wait 'till she gets the sign up!!

I took offense by the 'what stores we have comment' too. If the town isn't good enough for you why don't you saddle-up and move on.

Does anyone know the scoop about Tracy Porter wanting to have opened her store where the chamber is located but was not allowed too?

Anonymous said...

I think it the sleeping dog and i hope she has better hours than before.

Most of the stores in Green Lake sell a bunch of over-priced junk that only a tourist would buy. Most of us Green Laker's live in the real world, not some "I've got money burning a hole in my pocket" existance.

How nice that the stores will be open late. Maybe all the realtors will stay open late, too.

I will not buy new pajamas, especially here in Green Lake!

You're kidding right? North Bay and the gas station as retail draws. I frequent both places and like all of the owners and employees. To consider them as draws for Summer Solstice is a stretch to say the least. I find it highly unlikely anyone is browsing for Jack Daniels and a dozen minnows, or a quart of oil and a Snickers. The marina has a shop, but a $300.00 inner tube isn't a hot seller. The Tack Shop is located six blocks from the rest of the stores, quite a treck in you're in your jammies. The Mercantile, will it be opened ?

Bloch's Farm? Now that is retail gone great.

Anonymous said...

The $300 inner tube at the marina is one of the hottest items there. They usually sell out by july.

I love Bloch's Farm, and wish they would join the GL Chamber of Commerce. I often receive "chamber bucks" as gifts, and would rather spend them at Bloch's than any other place in town. I guess they do such a great business, they don't need the help of the Chamber, which is understandable.

As far as I'm concerned, there is not one single store in Green Lake that sells anything I would buy. Go up to Minoqua or Eagle River and you will see some really awesome, trendy shops. This town sucks.

On a side note, it has always disturbed me that the Mercantile displays Chicago Bears and other Chicago sports merchandise in their windows. It's like a slap in the face to us Cheeseheads.

Ironically, the gas station is the only store that I shop at here... great place to take a pee, too!

Realist,

I'd hate to run out of gas in the boonies and stumble across your home. I'll bet it's laid out like it belongs to those guys out of Deliverance.
Wood paneling on the walls, plastic fish ornaments and an old mangle in the yard for wringing out your lumberjack shirts .
A wiff of smoke rises out of the chimney into the trees, NO, wait, it's comin' out of the still.... Better throw another log on the fire before grandma catches a chill.
Later you can go play in the woods and practice drilling holes in logs with your single tooth.
We don't want people like you downtown GL, you're the dreggs of society and you should move to Eagle River, though I doubt they'd want you up there either.

God bless.

Not even the bait shop?

Bloch's Farm? Puh-leez...totally overpriced, mediocre service (at best), cheesy marketing, and profit motive gone bad. Everyone with a clue (i.e., the non-Lexus crowd) heads to Princeton and Stuart's (formerly Gro-Plant) for the antidote.

Much of the merchandise at Bloch's is overpriced, I admit. I only go there to buy plants, and they have the best selection in the area by far. Their perennials and vegetables are competitively priced, and super-healthy. They take very good care of their stock. Their trees are overpriced, but they are at Stuarts, too. I bought a very nice shrub at Bloch's last year for about $35, and I saw one very much like it at Stuarts (the one east of Ripon) for almost $200. No kidding. I've never had a problem with service at Bloch's, if I need help I always find it.

Regarding the anonymous response four blogs up, that is quite an imagination you have. Too bad you don't use it to think of a blogger name instead of always using "anonymous". Your description of me is way off, not even close. I have a full set of relatively straight, white teeth, a beautiful home, a great job, and a happy, healthy marriage.

Your response was so grossly inappropriate, it makes me wonder what your problem is. You obviously have deep psychological issues. Who do you mean when you say "we don't want people like you downtown"? Who is "we"? And who the hell are you to say that I am the dreggs of society, simply because I don't choose to shop downtown GL? You have major control issues, telling me that I should move simply because I have said something that you don't agree with. Now it's my turn to describe you: no self control, overweight, bad self image, unhappy marriage (probably divorced) substance abuser, and basically unfulfilled in every aspect of your life. I feel sorry for you and your family. Go get some help.

LOL...realit...you are close, you just decsribed my next door neighbor! Though I am a bit fat, but my husband likes me that way...now where were we

Anonymous said...

I don't really like Gro-Plant...there plants suck and the plant/bush of some sort I bought from there last summer never came up this year...Blochs is expensive, but the quality really is better!

Realist -
Do you not realize that the people spending the most money in green lake are from illinois? can you blame the hardware store for selling bears stuff?

Proud_gl_business_owner - if you aren't already, you should apply for a job at the gl chamber - you could write some great marketing stuff, and hopefully not print it on neon paper. like your style and your attitude. I hope it's contagious.

There's a substance abuser in Green Lake?

You rang?

Realist- I like your style. All these other people are living in some twilight zone world. Downtown Green Lake stores sell nothing but stupid crap and I can't leave because I'm stuck here. Why should I leave it's not my fault the stores sell crap.
