I heard that the city was siding toward a rehab of the existing structure. But I think it would be cool to knock it down and move it to the lakeside, so you could look over the lake while listening to music, etc. It could be impressive. What draw that would be.
It seems like another unnecessary expenditure of taxpayer funds. Besides, how can one see the lake with a bandshell in the way.
You build it with a transparent background. Not uncommon.
Everything around here is an 'unneccessary expenditure' - no wonder it's a ghost town. There aren't any improvements. You have to spend money to make money. This is a cultural town. We should foster that.
I agree with rebuilding it with the back to the lake. It was build with no fore thought orginally.(Although a good idea to build one at all). It would make for better acoustics as the predominate wind is off the lake. I also think if you got a decent architect to design it with a view towards the arts you could attract a better level of entertainment. I enjoy the occassional polka band as well as anybody but a classical piano recital is lost there and not feasible in the current condition of the the bandstand. There are also people who are interested in architecture and travel to places just for the architecture. Look at the new Milwaukee art museum. Quite often the building is better than the art inside. I think maybe it is time to update this area a bit.
What would be so great about moving it to the lakeside? Other than concerts in the park, what do we use it for? And the concerts in the park are really only busy for the Marching Band. Come on...have you been to some of the concerts..there not that great and when they finally get a good music group in they only play that one year.
I believe that would be the point of a new bandstand. It would improve the quality of the concerts and bring in more visitors if it was a better bandstand.
Does anyone know how much $$ they are estimating for the new bandstand?
if the band shelter gets moved to lakeside it will block another view of the lake in GL. Condos, homes, bandshelter... I miss the days when I was young and I could see the lake as I rode my bike.
Seriously, how could one possibly see the lake with the bandshell down at the lakeside? Fix it up and keep it where it is. According to past articles in the paper, people who have played on that stage have said it is the best acoustics they have ever had. Just because you build a new bandstand DOES not mean that more people will come and or be asked to perform.
