Based on the lack of comments it must have been more of a School Bored Meeting!

Harley cut some pretty good farts.

Makes sense. He's been known for moving around a lot of hot air on other occasions.

What a totally inappropriate comment. Get a life, please!

A select few people in this community love taking shots at Harley Reabe. There’s a reason for that: He’s one of the most popular School Board members. Ken Bates and his dwindling supporters on the School Board can’t stand that Harley was re-elected in a landslide, while Celest King (a Ken Bates supporter) lost badly. Gee whiz, maybe that says something.

The reality is, Harley and his pointed questions are exactly what this community wants. That’s why the majority of citizens voted to keep him. Good School Board members ask probing questions and disagree from time to time. Unfortunately, this also brings random, backhanded lies from the fringe about Harley passing gas, throwing tantrums, etc. Don’t be fooled. Such idiotic statements are coming from a shrinking minority who think they can spend their way out of a dying district by purchasing dozens of acres of “environmental” land and praising some international “programme” that nobody seems to know much about. We all got a kick out of the newspaper ads the district purchased to tout the IB program, trying to lure students from other districts. The reader response, I’m sure, was “What the hell is IB?” Just because it’s important to a few people in Green Lake doesn’t mean anyone else should care.

Now that the School Board has shifted against Ken, suddenly we see Ken pushing for combined administrative positions (principal and special education). During the past three years under this current administration, such a notion was never even introduced. Only now is the superintendent on board, because he knows the School Board isn’t exactly on his side anymore. The administration’s amen corner on the School Board has been trimmed by recent elections. It’s finally to the point where Ken is starting to respond.

Harley is an old gas bag. Read the paper today. Mr. Grumpy voted against the appointment of the new principal, Mary Allen. Why? She's been with the district 11 years, has the credentials and training, and has done a good job at the school. What else does she need to prove to have a shot at doing this job. Is there anyone Harley approves of? Besides Dick Cheney?

Anonymous said...

He was smart to vote against her. She is just an ejon groupie and offers no real change.

AMEN! That's why the job wasn't posted....it's much easier to give the job to someone who has been in e jon and Ken's back pocket all along....again...disappointing news for GL. When will we ever get a dynamic principal that truly cares about all of the students K-6It's been a long time since the days of Lori Baccus, contests to see who could read the most, dressing up as students favorite book characters, K-Kids, lunch with the principal for your birthday, regularly scheduled staff meetings, being visible in the halls, and knowing the names of ALL of her students. I fear this will be no better :0(

This would be the same principal who got paid to work out during work hours, and missed more days than worked in a year? Yep, let's bring back the glory days!

If Harley was so smart to vote against Mary Allen, and she is an e- jon groupie, then please explain why he voted to extend
e jon's contract for two years the last time his contract was up a year ago.

Mary Allen has been a good employee for the district, has done her job, cared about kids with special needs. She has been polite, honest and caring. She has not associated herself with the negative gossip mongers of the school, or those who worked to tear down any suggestion of themselves being made accountable.

I think we need to give her a chance to show what she can do in this new role. If she does not measure up in her actual performance, then okay, have at it, but let's not crucify her before she even gets started in her new job. We are unfortunately amazing as a community of running people out of here and not making them feel welcome. I hope we can get behind Mary as the new Principal and give her some support and help in making the school great for the kids here.

Lori Baccus was a very worthy principal- I would have her back any day! She had realistic goals and met them!!

I've heard that several elementary classes in GL will have 10 or less students in them when the new school year begins....how can this be??? In today's perilous economy that hardly seems fiscally responsible to the tax payers or even educationally sound for the students involved. Should'nt have looked to combine classes and eliminate positions over the summer to save the district some money?????

Harley is a Republican fiscal conservative. Obsessively so. His goal is to eliminate the Green Lake High School and ship our students 9-12 outside of the district.

If that's what you want, then continue to support and vote for Harley.

If you want your kids to belong to a unique and succesful education system here at Green Lake, then confront Harley, and vote him out of office.

He claims to be looking at the bottom-line, but his bottom-line costs Green Lake propety owners more money. That's a fact.

Compare the mill rates between local communities--Green Lake is the lowest.

Harley knows this--what is his agenda then? Ask him and his Repubican Chairman wife.

Last blogger, put a sock in it. You’re clearly just sore about the spring election. There’s a reason why the majority of local voters support Harley. Perhaps the new School Board minority should figure that out, lest we see more turnover in 2010.

First, you claim Harley wants to “ship our students 9-12 outside of the district.”

When exactly did Harley support that?

You also claim Harley “costs Green Lake property owners more money.”

How? Care to offer proof?

Best of all, you say, “Compare the mill rates between local communities. Green Lake is the lowest.”

Gee whiz, I thought a lower mill rate (tax rate) was a GOOD thing.

Harley asks the tough questions that need to be asked. He also saves us money. Here’s proof: Harley was the only School Board member to publicly oppose that enormous Sunnyside purchase. In terms of community support, Sunnyside was a flop. Even though it sounds good in theory, owning this land was expensive and unnecessary. Harley understood that all along and had the foresight to say “no.”
